Andrew Mayne born as Andrew Harter is an illusion designer, magician, and film maker. He is considered as one of the most prolific magic creators of the last decade after having written and produced over fifty DVDs, books and manuscripts on magic. Additionally, he is also the host of the Weird Things podcast and the publisher of iTricks.com and one of the top 20 Natural Science podcasts on iTunes. He is popularly known for his great magic tricks that mix mystery and science, and his illusions include drinking liquid nitrogen and shrinking his body to two feet tall.

Mayne started his performing career as a teenager working a summer in a circus. By the time he was early 20’s, he was already performing on cruise ships such as the Majesty Cruise Lines, Norwegian Cruise Line & Carnival Cruise Lines as well as in resorts. As a magic consultant Mayne has worked for Penn & Teller, his most favorite creation recreated a version of the arm via body illusion which was first performed by Horace Goldin.

Apart from writing, Mayne has directed several instructional videos, independent features, and some underground magic video Shock FX. He has also lectured in classrooms on skepticism and teaching critical thinking towards paranormal claims.

For half a decade, he served as the principal investigator and also invented the ghost vision, a paranormal effect in which the image of a ghost shadow appears on a video or a picture of a borrowed mobile phone.

As an author, he started writing fiction books in 2011 and published several eBooks the same year. Some of the novels series written by Mayne include Jessica Blackwood series, Station Breaker. Also, he has also issued standalone novels such as Knight School, Public Enemy Zero, and Hollywood Pharaoh.

Angel Killer

Angel Killer is the first book in Jessica Blackwood series published in 2012. In this first series opener, Mayne takes his significant expertise and knowledge in the writing of this fascinating thriller which introduces the readers to the main character, Special Agent Jessica Blackwood.

The story opens up with Jessica trying to escape her past and her family as well by working in law and enforcement department. However the harder she tries to escape from her past, the past comes back haunting and each time is trolling her harder and harder. Jessica is on the secondment to Quantico where she is investigating a white collar crime by looking at people financial incomes to find the bad guys when she is called in to see Dr. Ailes who has his own trained team of geeks and crunchers in a building avoided by many in the FBI.

Jessica feels like she is being questioned about a recent cyber attack on the FBI systems that gave clues about a dead body. Ailes informs her that she is to join the team investigating the cyber attack and also the corpse as a consultant and so she is asked to join the team at the airport.

Throughout this entertaining novel, many of her colleagues are not convinced about her skills in the field of investigation. However as the Warlock apparently seems to be pushing the case to the impossible, Jessica’s unique insights give the entire team a stunningly different view of the Warlock.

As the case expands, we are introduced to an explorer, by the name Damien who is a continued annoyance to Jessica. He is a magician and a high functioning gambler. As the story goes on, Jessica is nicknamed as the Witch of the FBI especially when she reveals to her colleagues how Warlock managed to fool everyone even the TV viewers. Now it becomes clear that this is a battle to the death between The Warlock and Blackwood, but Blackwood knows what she must do to undermine The Warlock.

Angel Killer is a fascinating thriller spiced up with magic and illusions that make it stand out from your every day procedural thrillers. Jessica is an attractive protagonist, and you will love how she matures as the time goes by. This is a gripping series opener with lots of mystery that will keep you guessing on the real identity of the warlock until the very end when the author finally reveals the identity of the warlock.

Name of the Devil

In Name of the Devil, we again meet the magician FBI operative Jessica as she makes a comeback in this fascinating sequel novel to Angel Killer. Her latest inquiry case needs her intelligence and also her skills in the art of illusion, something that she had done in the past, a past which she has now buried after she left her home and went on to live on her own.

Her grandfather and her father had worked for hand in hand on many performances on stage and Jessica was trained to perform small acts since she was a little girl. However after an incident nearly caused her death, she has since then tried to shun away from any magical performances since then. Her relationship with her grandfather remains weak, but she respects him and would occasionally visit him for some magical advice.

An explosion killed four people in a church, and the local sheriff is the prime suspect in this case, but unfortunately, he is later found dead. The FBI collected evidence that concludes that the four people had known each other and that their deaths are somehow connected to an event that occurred some years ago. However what they are not sure of is whether the unpredictable sheriff behavior is pharmacological or psychological. Did someone influence him into doing something?

As the special agent, Jess digs further she discovers that there is something more than it meets the eye and that someone desperately wants her dead. With no support from her bosses and no evidence of her suspicion, Jess understands that she now must rely on her own to reveal the truth.

From the rural towns to the state cities in Mexico; Jessica learns that whoever is accountable for the explosion is someone who has resources, intelligence, and power to get rid of any links pointing to her or him.The sole purpose is to get revenge for what happened on that fateful night involving the church victims and the sheriff.
