Born in America on October 19, 1942, Andrew Henry Vachss is an author of the crime fiction genre. He is an attorney and consultant of child protection and represents youths and children. The political organization PROTECT was founded by him and he serves as a national advisory board member in this organization. He is a native citizen of New York city. Vachss had many notable roles in the protection of child before becoming a lawyer. He was a social services caseworker of New York City and served in sexually transmitted disease as a federal investigator. Just before the fall of Biafra, he entered the war zone and worked in this country. The Nigerian government banned the Red Cross airlifts and blocked the seaports. Hence, his work was to find a way, or route to supply the medical supplies and foods across the border. However, there was an ultimate failure in all the attempts that lead to rampant starvation. At that time he suffered from malnutrition and malaria and treated it after he returned. Under Saul Alinsky in the year 1970, he studied community organizing. In Chicago for the urban migrants, a self-help center was run by him and he worked as a labor organizer. In Massachusetts, for the ex-convicts, a re-entry program was managed by Andrew Vachss and finally a maximum-security prison was directed by him to the people like juvenile offenders.

Speaking about him as an attorney, only adolescents and children is represented by him. In New York state along with his private practices, he also serves as a law guardian. The work of the law guardian is to represent child in every child abuse case. He wears an eyepatch on the right because the muscles of his right eye are damaged. This happened at the age of 7 when struck by a chair by an older boy. Alice, his wife was a prosecutor of sex crimes. Later in the Special Victims Bureau, she became the chief. He also loves dogs very much and defends dogs through animal abuse. Related to dogs, he says that you get what you raise, just like humans. Along with James Colbert, who is a crime writer, Vachss helps abused children by training the dogs to make them as a therapy dog. Children who are traumatized because of abuses done on them, these dogs give them a calming effect. He says that dangerous breeds of dogs like Pit bulls, Rottweilers and Doberman pinschers are the best dogs for therapy. They make a dangerous appearance and protect children from any human threats and thereby make the children get over with the trauma. His wife used to bring Sheba, a trained dog regularly at the interview done on the abused children during her time as a chief.
