Her hosts throw a house party for the cream of London society. At the party, Kiera is unable to hide from the ire of those who believe that she is as unnatural as her husband, who was an anatomist who used Kiera’s artistic talents to suit his own hideous purposes.
Although Kiera wants to put her past aside, one of the house guests is murdered, her brother-in-law requests her to use her knowledge of human anatomy to assist the insufferable Sebastian Gage who is also a guest but with some experience as an enquiry agent. There search leads to even more gruesome discoveries and Lady Darby receives a series of disturbing notes urging her to drop the enquiry. But there are a lot of things in the city that Kiera isn’t quite ready to face. She is not ready to face the society ladies who are keen on judging her. Also, she is not ready to meet her fellow investigator and romantic entanglement- Sebastian Gage and another deadly mystery.
Kiera’s has an old friend named Michael Dalmay who is about to get married. However, the arrival of his older brother, William, who was also Kiera’s childhood art tutor throw everything into chaos. William has been missing for ten years, admitted to an insane asylum by his own father. Listening to this story, Kiera becomes sympathetic to William’s plight, especially when some rumors circulate about a local girl gone missing. Once again, Kiera has to join forces with Gage and utilize her knowledge of the macabre to prove the innocence of the beloved family friend and at the same time save the marriage of another.
