Anne Cleeland earned a degree in English from the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA). She also earned a law degree from Pepperdine University. She is a member of the California State Bar. She resides on an island called Balboa in California and raises four children. She writes present-day romantic suspense and historical fiction series where the setting is in the Regency period. Her first and foremost novel is entitled Tainted Angel. Cleeland is a member of the Historical Novel Society and Mystery Writers of America. She is the author of the New Scotland Yard mystery series books.

STYLE

Anne Cleeland writes historical fiction series set in the Regency period. The Regency period spans from 1811-1820 when the Prince of Wales ruled during King George III’s period of incapacity. She is neither an English person nor a detective, but she writes stories involving British detectives. The detectives in the series interview suspicious characters who smoke, even though England has banned smoking in public places. Moreover, the detectives seem constantly busy with their work, as if they never take days off. In England, there should really be rest days for detectives.

TAINTED ANGEL

The novel “Tainted Angel,” published in June 2013, is termed a “Regency Adventure” by Anne Cleeland. It is a historical fiction set in the Regency period, during the Napoleonic Wars. Tainted Angel, Anne Cleeland’s debut novel, is a masterpiece of plot adventure and twist.

The story begins with a beautiful yet notorious woman named Vidia Swanson, employed as an ‘angel’, who tries to extract secrets from powerful men, whether they are loyal to the Crown or not. Due to her stunning beauty and flirtatious skills, she can coax men to disclose their secrets with her.

Her most recent target is a suspected thief of gold stolen from Wellington’s troops. However, the situation becomes mysterious and alarming when she discovers that her spymaster suspects her of being a double agent working for Napoleon.

Lord Tynebourne, also known as Lucien Carstairs, who is deeply in love with Vidia, suspects that she is a double agent. Lord Tynebourne is determined to clear Vidia’s reputation, although his deceased wife Marie, a French agent herself, condemns Vidia. The stolen fortune, which includes records of missing gold shipments from the Bank of England, suggests possible forgeries that implicate Vidia. They question how Vidia is related to Mr. Brodie, the mysterious and wealthy man. Mr. Brodie is also the landowner of her townhouse and her protector.

Tainted Angel is Anne Cleeland’s debut novel. At first glance, readers might assume that Vidia’s story is primarily a historical romance, but it delves deeper into mystery and suspense. This is a great suspense book to take and read at the beach.

MURDER IN THRALL

Murder in Thrall, published in August 2013, is one of the mystery series written by Anne Cleeland. Murder in Thrall is an Acton and Doyle Scotland Yard mystery book series. It is the first Scotland Yard mystery book. It depicts the dangerous notable achievements of the two Scotland Yard detectives’ journey of hunting down London’s most notorious killer.

Chief Inspector Michael Sinclair, also known as Lord Acton, and novice detective Kathleen Doyle are the two main characters of the first mystery book. At first, they are not compatible to do joint crime investigation, because they are completely opposite. Kathleen Doyle, an Irish redhead, is somewhat new to the world of crime investigation and is the antithesis of her partner Acton. Lord Acton, on the other hand, is a British lord who regards himself as an intellectual yet enigmatic person with, of course, a unique way of hunting down criminals in town.

Despite Doyle’s lack of worldliness, Acton sees Doyle as an exceptional detective. So he asks her to assist him with his investigations. Though Doyle is naïve, her suspicions are often spot on. And this is what Acton values to help him solve a chilling series of murders.

When a murder occurs at a racetrack, with a horse trainer killed on the spot, Acton and Doyle begin questioning witnesses and acquaintances of the victim. However, the murderer continues his heinous acts. This situation leaves the two detectives with many unanswered questions.

Their investigation is hindered by their colleagues at the CID Headquarters, where mistakes and jealousy could jeopardize the case. They find their case being interfered with, resulting in a more convoluted and delayed investigation.

As they uncover more murders, Doyle and Acton soon realize the truth is far more terrifying than they had imagined. With their newfound knowledge, they find themselves vulnerable to the ruthless killer.

Anne Cleeland writes the New Scotland Yard mystery series, and the first book is Murder in Thrall – the second book she wrote after Tainted Angel.

MOVIES AND AWARDS

Anne Cleeland began her writing career in 2013. Her first novel is Tainted Angel, followed by the New Scotland Yard mystery series. She has not yet received any awards, but she is a member of prominent writer groups in America, specifically the Historical Novel Society and Mystery Writers of America. She has penned three series of books under the New Scotland Yard banner and two other books set in the Regency period. As for film adaptations, none of her works have been made into movies yet.

CONCLUSION

Anne Cleeland is a notable author known for her suspense and mystery novels. Her historical books, Tainted Angel and Daughter of the God-King, are set in the Regency period, showcasing Cleeland’s expertise in this era. Regarding her mystery series, the first was published in 2013, swiftly followed by two more – one later the same year and another in 2014.

She is a member of the California State Bar, which perhaps influences her passion for writing stories related to mystery and crime. Although she has authored only a few books, she has already garnered positive reviews, with readers eagerly anticipating more of her captivating tales.

Now what?!?! I’ve just finished the last 5 books in the Doyle & Acton series. A week of doing nothing but reading and taking care of the cats, lot’s of cereal and fruit because I couldn’t take the time to cook. How long do I have to wait for the next book? And, the next “one” won’t be enough, perhaps you could release 2 at once!? I know I’m going to have to start from the beginning – – I’ve actually got more than 500 books on my kindle to be read yet, but I am already craving more Doyle and Acton.
