Anne Holt is one of the well known authors Norway who is famous for writing her books based on the crime fiction, mystery, and thriller genres. She is particularly popular for creating and successfully publishing the Vik/Stubo series and the Hanne Wilhelmsen series. Before deciding to become a writer, Holt used to work as a journalist, lawyer, politician, and anchor woman. Author Holt began her writing career in the year 1993 with the publication of her debut novel titled ‘Blind Goddess’. Other than the successful books of her mystery and crime fiction series, she has also written several standalone novels in her writing career, which have been translated into the English language. Author Holt was born on November 16, 1958, in Larvik, Norway. Having served as a politician during the early phase of her writing career, she has now turned her focus towards writing crime fiction novels and has completely left her post of Minister of Justice. Author Holt spent most of her growing years in Tromso and Lilestrom and then decided to move to Oslo in the year 1978. She eventually graduated from the University of Bergen with a law degree in the year 1986.

Immediately after her graduation she had started working for The Broadcasting Corporation of Norway. Author Holt worked there for a period of 4 years between 1984 and 1988. Following that, she joined the Oslo Police Department and worked there for a period of two years. With an appropriate term of service in the Oslo Police Department, author Holt earned her right to practice law, according to rules of Norway for studying law with a work experience. In the year 1990, she once again returned to The Broadcasting Corporation of Norway and began working as a journalist. Holt was also involved in the organization as an anchor woman, carrying out the news program called Dagsrevyen for a period of one year. From the year 1994 onward, author Holt began her own law practice and at the same time, joined politics and acquired the post of the Minister of justice. She served in the Cabinet Jagland for a very short period of around two years between 1995 and 1997.

Citing the increasing deterioration of her health, she had to resign from her post and was consequently succeeded by Gerd-Liv Valla. Author Holt made her debut as a crime novel in the year 1993 by writing and publishing her first book called as ‘Blind Gudinne’. This book introduced for the first time the main protagonist named Hanne Wilhelmsen in the form of a lesbian police officer. Following the immense success of her debut novel, author Holt co-authored a couple of books with one of her former home secretaries named Berit Reiss-Andersen, titled Uten Ekko and Loven Gap. After having written a number of successful crime, fiction, thriller, and mystery books in her writing career, author Holt is regarded as one of the highly respected authors of Norway in these genres. The books written by her have been published in as many as 25 countries of the world. One of the Scottish crime authors named Val McDermaid has praised the tremendous contribution of author Holt by saying that she is the latest crime novelist who has shown exactly how dark the crime world is in Scandinavia. As of today, author Anne Holt lives in Oslo along with her registered partner named Anne Christine. The couple has a daughter named Iohanne.

One of the most successful book series written by author Anne Holt is called as the Hanne Wilhelmsen series, which comprises of 9 books in total. All the books in this series were published between the years 1993 and 2015, and feature Hanne Wilhelmsen as a lesbian police officer stationed in Oslo, Norway. The initial book of the series was published under the title ‘Blind Goddess’. It was released by the Scribner publishers in the year 1993. As the plot of the book starts, author Holt has introduced a small drug dealer whose dead body is discovered from the outer region of the capital of Norway in a deeply battered condition. The police come across a young Dutchman walking casually in the central Oslo with covered all over his body. They take him into custody in relation with the murder of the drug dealer, but they find it difficult to make him speak.

Soon, he comes to know that a woman named Karen Borg had discovered the dead body first and is a lawyer by profession. Immediately after that he opens his mouth and asks the police to let Karen be his defendant. After a couple of days, a criminal lawyer named Hansa Larsen is found dead with a gunshot. Later, Hanne Wilhelmsen and Hakon Sand become successful in establishing the link between the two murders. After they find a coded message from the apartment of Hansa, they take the help of Billy T, a colleague from their department, and come to know that a recent rumor has spread in the drug underworld involving the lawyers connected to drug dealing. As the police investigates further, they become successful in uncovering a huge network of corruption connected to the highest levels of the city government. In the end, it becomes very much important for Hanne and her colleagues to catch the killer and bring down the drug dealings and corruption in the city.

The other initial book of the Hanne Wilhelmsen series was published under the title ‘Blessed are the Ones who Thirst’. This book was also released by the Scribner publishers in the year 1993. At the beginning of the novel, Hanne Wilhelmsen is sent to a crime scene on the border of Oslo. There, he finds an abandoned shed fully covered with blood. He also finds an 8 digit number written on the wall, but no dead body. After that instance, he comes across several other numbers written on different isolated locations in the town. Soon, Hakon Sand makes a shocking discovery and informs Hanne that all the 8 digit numbers are related to the foreign immigrants and all them are females reported missing. Following the discovery, Hanne and Hakon begin to wonder how the killer was able to get access the data related to the immigrants. In the meantime, an unsolved rape case victim decides to take matters into her own hands in obtaining justice, with the help of her father. When Hakon Sand and Hanne Wilhelmsen come to know about this, they realize that they are not the only ones who are looking for the serial killer.
