About the Characters

The entire series revolves around the Black Dagger Brotherhood itself, which is a group of vampire warriors which basically acts as an army against any other beings or humans who are out to attack the vampires. Most of the main characters in the series are drawn from the Black Dagger Brotherhood, including Wrath, Rhage, Zsadist, Dhestroyer, Vishous, Phury, Rehvenge, Tohrment, and many more. Immediately most readers begin to notice the clever use of common words with evil connotations misspelled as a play on the pronunciations of the words. Such character names help create a slightly oppressed, ominous, and supernatural ambience which pervades the entire series.

Wrath, who is often referred to as the Blind King, is the King of the Vampires and the last pure-blood vampire in existence. His name is one of the evil words that Bird uses in the novel as a name, but it is correctly spelled, indicating Wrath’s pure-blood ancestry. Wrath is also literally blind, and he uses the help of his wife and a service dog to assist him. The first book of the series, Dark Lover, discusses Wrath’s life and romantic future with Beth. This is the most popular book in the series due to the interesting lives and plot situations that Wrath and Beth The second book discusses the life and story of Rhage, who is the most sexual and attractive members of the Brotherhood. He is possessed by a demon who he named Beast, which makes him dangerous but also creates a multifaceted personality. He is one of the most popular characters in the series due to his interesting personality traits, which are all caused by Beast. The third book, Lover Awakened, is all about Zsadist. He has a twin brother named Phury, who rescued him after he was sold into a life of torture and sexual slavery.

In Lover Awakened, Zsadist finds his true love in the stunningly beautiful Bella and the book discusses their ventures of love together. Phury has a separate story which is told in the sixth book, Lover Enshrined. Dhestroyer is one of the most notable characters in the Brotherhood simply because he is a human male, and the only human to ever be allowed into the Brotherhood. He was previously called Butch but renamed upon his entry into the Brotherhood. His story is written in the novel, Lover Revealed. The fifth book, Lover Unbound, is written about Vishous. Vishous possesses the gift of intelligence and is an irreplaceable asset to the entire brotherhood simply due to his quick, productive mind. He can also see the future and knows of perilous coming events. However, this causes some psychological problems for Vishous since he is often pained that he cannot save a loved one from a disastrous situations, even though he knows about it beforehand. Still, his psychic abilities are used repeatedly to aid the Black Dagger brotherhood work together to protect their race.

There are also many, many female characters who mostly play love interests for the male characters in the Black Dagger Brotherhood. Each of these female characters play an equally important role in the books as the males, but the individual stories and novels are usually identified by the more prominent and multifaceted male characters.

The Stories of Wrath and Beth

Many Black Dagger Brotherhood readers generally agree that Wrath and Beth have the most interesting and in-depth storyline and the first novel is naturally the perfect introduction to the series for any new readers of Black Dagger Brotherhood. Therefore, the first book, Dark Lover, is the most popular novel of the series and long-time fans of the series often recall that their fondest memories of the series have to do with the stories of Wrath and Beth. The first novel explores the first love story of the entire series, so it has a sense of originality and freshness that is unique to the first novel. The idea of Wrath being one of a kind and physically helpless in a way, due to his blindness, makes the bond between Wrath and Beth even stronger. Their relationship can be described as being truly beautiful and enriched with trust, purity, and love. Wrath is extremely endearing, as well, because although he is a being of great importance, power, and influence, he still requires lots of help for the littlest of help and Beth is ready to help him unconditionally. This type of love is exclusive to the love between Wrath and Beth, which is what makes the novel such an impressive read and leaves the readers with a great taste for the rest of the series.

The first novel introduces the reader to the war between the vampire warriors and any slayers or humans that are trying to erase the race of the vampires from the world. At this point, the Black Dagger Brotherhood only has six members that are introduced to the readers. Wrath is presented as the most authoritative figure in the book with an extreme love for killing his slayers. He has a thirst to avenge the deaths of his pure-blood ancestors, who were almost all killed by the very slayers who are out to kill him. The story deals with the struggle that Wrath must undertake to bring a half-breed girl, Beth, into the world of the undead. They end up falling in love and the rest of the story is a beautiful, blossoming romance mixed in with the excitement and tension of the war as the main plot. In addition, the author is currently writing a sequel to the first novel since it was the most popular book of the series. The sequel will be set as the twelfth book in the series and it will be aptly be titled The King.

While readers of the Black Dagger Brotherhood series are anxiously awaiting the twelfth installment in the series, many more readers are deciding to pick up a Black Dagger brotherhood novel for the first time to give it a try.
