The same author known for the Georgina Kincaid series and Vampire Academy created the Bloodlines series, Richelle Mead. She is a bestselling author of New York Times and USA Today for urban fantasy books for the young teen generation and adults alike. The American author is originally from Michigan, who now lives in Seattle Washington as a full-time writer of her fantasy series novels. She has always been fascinated with folklore and mythology, and has fulfilled this passion in writing her vampire fantasy series. Her Vampire Academy series won awards from the American Library Association and was a hit and immediate bestseller in various countries and so the book is translated into 30 different languages. From this came the birth of her new series, Bloodlines. Rose Hathaway has been the center and wrapped up the story focus of Vampire Academy, being a half-vampire caught between the battles of two vampire races roaming the world, where Bloodlines aim to tell of other characters that have significance and greatly contribute to the existence of vampires and humans together.
The Bloodlines Series
The Vampire Academy series has made its way to the top, ranking 1st on the USA Today and New York Times bestseller lists, whereas Rose took all the credit. It also has reached theatres with the same title in 2014, the Vampire Academy satirical, fantasy horror film However, there is a lot more to know about the important past and behind the scenes, for all cast and characters play a unique role in each story that it would not be complete and the same without them. One such character is Sydney. She is the character focus of this new compelling novel by Richelle Mead, Bloodlines, the first of the books in the spin-off series which looks into the characters from the Vampire Academy. The other characters involved are Jill, Adrian and Eddie, all regarded as main characters now in this Bloodlines series. Everything takes place in the same world, same vampire races as well as rules. Sydney Sage is an Alchemist, a human teenager belonging in a group aware of vampire existence and bound to keeping it a secret from the whole world. Also, after being in a complicated alliance with Rose in the VA series, she is being closely watched by the Alchemists reluctantly entrusting her the task of the main part in a cover up plan to keep the princess, Jill, safe from assassination by Moroi rebels for the fact that she is the Queen’s little sister, a perfect target for undermining the Queen’s rule. Sydney grew up believing that vampires and dhampirs are evil, where circumstances brought her to hiding with the three other characters- Jill as mentioned, Adrian the Spirit user who has a psychic bond with Jill, and Eddie, the Guardian of the Moroi princess, and which altogether changes everything she thought she knew.
The first book, entitled Bloodlines of the Bloodlines series is a story narrated by Sydney Sage, an alchemist. She is no ordinary alchemist, and the term alchemist is not to be taken in the true meaning. The Bloodlines series is not to be confused with the first Vampire Academy novel series- Bloodlines is an offshoot of the Vampire Academy, meaning if features the same characters and the same universe, only this time the main spotlight is on the side characters from the original Vampire Academy books. The alchemists in this world are the ones who practice magic and also bridge the worlds between vampires and humans. Following the last plot, Sydney assisted Rose Hathaway, a dhampir that has gone rogue. The author Richelle Mead has enjoyed immense success in the young adult genre, garnering multiple awards with her most famous series Vampire Academy. She weaves a believable story and infuses it with romance and the paranormal that connects with her audience, the young teens and adults. The story starts with Sydney being abducted in the middle of the night with an urgent mission of acting as guardian for Jill Dragomir- sister of Moroi Queen Lissa Dragomir, to prevent a civil war. For the purpose of keeping hidden and staying that way, a human boarding school in the sunny Palm Springs, California was chosen in the name of Amberwood Prep. Tagging along are some of the other characters in the book, in no discernible order- younger sister Zoe, Palm Springs alchemist guardian Keith, Eddie Castile, who is another Dampir, Adrian Ivashkov, a spirit user and a royal vampire. The book follows them as they try to keep hidden from an usurper of the throne.
The Golden Lily
The Golden Lily is the second book in the spin-off series Bloodlines and features the same heroine Sydney Sage, an alchemist tasked with an important mission to protect a morai princess from an assassination attempt. The second book follows the cast of characters closely as they come in contact with forbidden love and romance, the Strigoi and the world of the supernatural. It is more or less a continuation of the second book and the plot and story would be the same. The heroine Sydney explores her love interests and finds herself in a dilemma all throughout the book about conflicting feelings and relationships. If the first book served as the launching pad for the whole storyline and set the mood for the novel series, the second book slows down a bit and explores the romantic side of the cast of characters, especially the heroine, and also would have her think long and carefully about everything that she knew and believed was right. The book at some point educates and gives more information and tidbit about the world of Vampire Academy and its nuances, and sometimes would throw terms such as the Strigoi (which are the strongest and unkillable vampires) that succeeds in adding more color and life. It would be up to Sydney and she will be faced with major decisions that will change her life and those around her. In response to the second book, the young adult crowd was wowed once again and heaped praises for it, with some saying they could not wait for the third book to be made and come out for reading.Book Series In Order » Characters » Bloodlines
