Brenda K. Davies who also goes by Erica Stevens and real name Heather Gilmour-Cox, is an American author best known for the Vampire Awakening series of novels.

Born in New York, she moved to Massachusetts as a child and spent most of her childhood between Massachusetts and New York. She asserts that her two pen names Erica Stevens and Brenda K. Davies are a tribute to two amazing friends of hers that passed on within months of each other.

While she is currently a full time writer, Brenda worked as a landscaper for 10 years writing part time. She would wake up at two in the morning to write before heading off to her day job. Before becoming a landscaper, she worked as a Mental Health consultant in a penitentiary while still a college student. She has also worked as a trainer and groomer for Standard bred racehorses.

As a fantasy and paranormal romance writer, her inspiration comes from her love for legends, myths, and horror movies that she watched, ever since she was a child. She also reads and watches anything in the paranormal genre that she can find.

She has always had a passion for writing, which drove her to start her self-publishing career in 2012, after unsuccessfully pitching her writing to publishers for five years. She has gone on to publish 10 books under the Brenda K. Davies pen name. Her books under the Davies pen name such as the Vampire Awakenings, and Road to Hell series are best classified as adult paranormal romances. A Stolen Heart, a Historical Romance released in 2014 is another book by Brenda K. Davies that has gone on to attain commercial success.

A Summary of Awakened (Vampire Awakenings series) by Brenda K. Davies

Sera, is attending college in Massachusetts since she wants to be as far away from her terrible high school life as she can. At a college party, she meets Liam a brooding frat vampire who is looking to meet girls. He immediately notices Sera and is for some strange reason irresistibly drawn to her. Soon they start dating, though Sera is acting weirder by the day. It soon comes out that she has a dark past, which made her very untrusting of all men.

The two soon fall in love, but Sera is still oblivious of the fact that her boyfriend Liam is a vampire. However, the truth soon comes out when Sera’s ex turns up and tries to rape her again. Liam who can feel her emotions is on the scene just in time to kill the ex-boyfriend. As Sera freaks out, Liam realizes that, to put her at ease, he has to reveal that he is a vampire. She is at first terrified, but soon her terror gives way to sense, as she rationalizes that she is in love and he is too cute anyway.

Now that Sera knows that Liam feeds on blood, she gets mad at him for preying on innocent people and for not drinking hers. Soon Liam starts getting too protective and possessive of Sera, even forbidding her from going outside without her coat or staying out too long with friends. He calls this part of himself, the beast.

Meanwhile, another vampire turns up on the scene and starts harassing Sera. Turns out that, the vampire had years earlier turned Liam into a vampire so that they would be soul mates. Now super jealous of Liam’s new relationship, she tries to kill Sera, but finds it hard to do it while she is under the protection of the beast. Liam’s vampire friend David tells him that he has no choice but to change Sera, since they are soul mates and that is the only way she would come to accept him fully. Sera agrees to be turned into a vampire, but is kidnapped by the jealous vampire soon after Liam turns her. Once again, Liam rescues her and swaps his old soul mate for the brand new vampire Sera.

Liam and Sera finally decide to move to Oregon, where they can be away from the evil vampire. She is soon pregnant and the two lovebirds are engaged in front of four of Liam’s best friends. They live happily thereafter with their two children.

A Summary of Destined (Vampire Awakenings series) by Brenda K. Davies

The book starts 25 years into the future of Sera and Liam that now have 10 children – two sets of twins and 4 singles. Ethan is the eldest and likes to hang out with his father’s friends David, Jack, and Mike. They have maintained the friendship and are a great help in the raising of Sera and Liam’s child. His mother has not set eyes on Kathleen her best friend for over 15 years when she comes visiting for two weeks accompanied by her two daughters Jess and Deila.

Meanwhile Isabelle horrified at the thought of becoming mated like her parents, lives as a recluse to avoid falling victim to the same fate. She is happy to live the recluse lifestyle among her own family shut out from the happenings in the outside world and the human race. While she is so determined to cut herself off from any outside influences, she is not prepared for her worst nightmare as her parents past comes back to rock her life of seclusion. The stunning and powerful vampire Stefan from their Massachusetts days, and now boyfriend to Jess her cousi,n comes along for the two week stay with her family.

Stefan does not expect to find a house full of vampires, though he finds the willful, vibrant, and defiant Isabelle quite an intriguing proposition. Used to getting his way, Stefan is surprised when Isabella seems to have no interest in his good looks or power.

Unlike her parents, Isabella does not want anything that they have, and does all that is in her power to hide her desire and attraction towards Stefan. It is very clear to all the vampires that Stefan and Isabelle are soul mates, even as Stefan is unaware of it while Isabelle is fighting it.

As the novel progresses, Isabelle slowly begins to realize that it may be futile trying to fight the fate that destiny has in store for her and Stefan. Just as she begins warming up to Stefan, his unresolved dark past with a vampire that turned him is unearthed, threatening to destroy both their lives.

I can say The Vampire Awakening Books are by far better than Twilight with respect. I usually find Vampire books a bit dull because the storyline, well, love story, is too good to be true. I never thought I’d be into a Vampire series it’s been 20years till I found these books. I especially enjoy Book 10. The best part is since I’ve read these books, I’ve dreamt about it and never slept so great. Mommy needs her escape. Even at 35, a girl could still dream. Thank you. These books are fantastic; I feel I am part of it.
