In rural Massachusetts, on the edge of the Quabbin Reservoir, Carla Neggars was born and when she was just a little one, she would live vicariously through the tales of her father, stories of life as a dutch sailor and the humble beginnings of her mother in her native Florida.

Since the age of eleven, while climbing to the top of a tree with a pad and pen, she has been spinning yarns and composing new ideas.

She has sold over a million books in thirty countries. Her popularity rose to new heights with the release of “Sharpe and Donavin” series of romantic novels. The series features FBI agents, Emma Sharpe and Colin Donovan, and they were delivered as a tandem with the release of “Saint’s Gate”, in 2011. Both novels have been praised and cited for a read that is nothing short of breathtaking and they are an experience, that is truly not to be missed.

In 2012, Carla Neggers debuted her “Swift River Valley” series, which was released along with her modern classic, “Secrets of the Lost Summer.” The two combined subtle greatness and they both garnered a lucrative star review from Booklist and also a top pick, given from RT Book Reviews. The moment that she became catapulted into the ranks of bestseller was when she was rewarded by the publication heavyweights, such as USA Today, Publisher’s Weekly bestseller list and of course, the aforementioned, New York Times Bestseller List.

As it stands, Carla Neggers can boast a resume of 70 novels, her free time is spent in the company of family at her homestead with her husband, six brothers, sisters and their children.

The moments that Carla is not blessing all of us with her gift of words is when she persues her love of travel, gardening, hiking, kayaking and also she loves delving into a great book.

Her Ideas

According to Neggers, all her ideas come to her in different ways, times and situations, the most common time, is when she least expects it. She could be either at the grocery store, on an elevator in Boston, cooking, cleaning, gardening, hiking in Ireland or even sitting at her desk, brainstorming various ideas. She mentions that the trick to it all is to try and figure out what ideas are worth creating.

The Time it Takes

The duration of time that elapses for Neggers to craft a book, according to her, is all about the percolation of an idea. It could be a long time before she actually decides to finally get it out into the physical. She also mentiones her lack of discipline and living without regimen, which plays a major role in the fact that she can’t ever remember the exact amount of time in which actually took to write the novel.

The Birth of Characters

Neggers spoke about how her characters originally came to fruition, she said that sometimes they find her and then sometimes, she finds them. She discussed a scenario in which, if Emma Sharpe and Colin Donovan had came to her door, that she would recognize them immediately and that their presence is something she feels is virtually real. She has tried the the premeditation route of creation but when the characters come to her, that’s when the magic happens.

Rock Point

   Good afternoon! It’s been a long time (2019) since the last Sharp and Donovan book was published. I was conditioned to getting a new one in August each year 🙂 Do you have any idea when the next one will arrive? It’s August 2023 currently.
