Cecily von Ziegesar is one of the highly successful novelists from America who likes to write her books based on the young adult genre. She is particularly famous for her young adult novel series titled ‘Gossip Girl’. Author Cecily has also written a few other books based on the drama, short romance, and comedy genres. She was born on June 27, 1970, in New York City, New York, United States. Her family is believed to have originated from the nobility of the Germans. When author Cecily was small, she used to dream of becoming a ballerina after growing up. Her parents had admitted her to ballet classes at the age of three and when she 8 years old, she auditioned for the Ballet School of America. But, her dreams did not see the light of the day as she was rejected at the auditions. As Cecily entered into her teenage years, she began communicating to Manhattan every morning at 6 am in order to attend The Nightingale Bamford School. After her graduation from the Nightingale, author Cecily joined the Colby College. Post her graduation, she began working for a radio station in Budapest, continuing for a period of one year. Cecily returned back to the United States in order to study creative writing at the Arizona University. However, she dropped out from there very soon.

At one point in her life, author Cecily was working for a book packaging firm in the New York City called as Alloy Entertainment. During this time, she got the idea of writing a novel of her own and inspirationally came up with the first book of the Gossip Girl series. Over the course of the next few years, a whole series of novels were published by her in the Gossip Girl series. The books in this series deal with the different views of the high end teenage lifestyles. It became such a huge hit that it was listed on top of the New York Times bestseller list in the year 2002. Later, author Cecily also wrote a spin off of the original book series titled as ‘The It Girl’, which also entered in the bestseller list of New York Times in the year 2005. One of the books in the series revolves around a school called ‘The Constance Billard Girls School’, in which author Cecily has given descriptions of her own alma mater, the Nightingale Bamford School. The novel, Gossip Girl, was adapted into a television shown in the year 2007. It received mixed reviews from the viewers at the time of its premiere. Between episodes one and two, the show lost over a million viewers. For the rest of the episodes, the viewers kept increasing and decreasing.

Several criticisms and controversies also surfaced related to the television show because of the fact that the makers did not include a major portion of the book’s plot, several facts, and a few important characters in the TV show. Due to this, the viewers were very much disappointed. Author Cecily had to come to the rescue of the producers of the show saying that it had most of the plot that has depicted in the original novel. She even highlighted the fact the television show takes place in New York City just like in the novel. In the year 2011, renewed version of the television series was developed in which also Cecily also made a cameo appearance. The Yen Press announced in the year 2009 that it is planning to create a graphic adaptation of the novel that will feature the original story lines and characters. The chapter of the graphic novel was published in the 2010 issue of the Yen Plus magazine. Currently, author Cecily lives in Brooklyn along with her husband named Richard, who works as a Deputy Director at an art fund. They have a couple of children named Oscar and Agnes. The family of author Cecily also consists of a Cornish cat as well as a westie, which is called as Frosty.
