Chris Pavone is an American author of international thrillers. His first novel was The Expats, released in 2012. It became an international bestseller, winning both the Anthony and Edgar Awards for Best First Novel. His novels have appeared on bestseller lists including New York Times and USA Today, are in development for Hollywood projects, and have been translated into two dozen languages.

Pavone was born and brought up in New York City. After graduating from Cornell University in 1989, he worked for a number of years in various positions at several publishing houses. After almost two decades as a copy editor, editor, and publisher, he began focusing on his own writing career.

Pavone is married to Madeline McIntosh and has twin sons. He lives with his family in New York City.

The first novel written by Chris Pavone was The Expats, released by Crown Publishing in 2012. The plot of this novel revolves around the life of a working mother named Kate Moore and her husband, living in the New York City.

In the opening sequence of the novel, Kate is introduced as a working mother facing challenges in raising her children, making ends meet, and keeping her marriage alive. She also maintains an increasingly unbearable and life-defining secret.

Soon, her husband is offered a lucrative job in Luxembourg, which affords Kate the chance to leave her double life behind and start a fresh one. She works to reinvent herself in the life of expat, finding her way despite a foreign language, in a life of coffee meet-ups, cooking, and never-ending laundry.

In the meantime, her husband seems to work incessantly in a job that Kate does not understand, for a banking client about whom she is not allowed any knowledge. Gradually, the two become evasive and distant from each other, causing Kate to become bored and lonely.

Soon, an American couple arrives in her neighborhood. Kate begins to suspect that they are not what they pretend to be. She becomes terrified that her past life is trying to catch up with her, and she begins to investigate.

Kate discovers fake offices and shell corporations, as well as a hidden gun. She finds out about a mysterious farmhouse and numerous accounts with huge sums of money. Soon, Kate finds herself entangled in a web of intrigue and discovers that no one is what they seem.

Pavone’s second novel, The Accident, was published in 2014. This novel also became an instant hit and a New York Times bestseller. The plot of the novel revolves around the lives of the main characters, Isabel Reed and Hayden Gray.

In the opening sequence of the novel, Isabel Reed is introduced as a literary agent who reads a mysterious and anonymous manuscript that reveals some explosive truths about powerful people, as well as long-hidden secrets of her own past life. Hayden Gray is introduced as a veteran CIA operative in Copenhagen who is determined to keep the manuscript buried.

The author of the manuscript seems to be hiding in the form of a shadowy expat in Zurich. He tries to atone for a lifetime’s worth of betrayals and lies with the publication of the manuscript called The Accident.

During one long, perilous, and increasingly dangerous day, these three lives collide as the manuscript heads towards its publication. The manuscript could save and ruin several careers as well as companies, risk everything, and place the lives of everyone in danger.
