The plot of the novel features the main characters Greg and Victoria as a married couple and the owner of The Charming Moose Diner. In the opening sequence of the plot of the novel, the husband and wife pair is depicted as living in Jasper Fork, North Carolina where their diner is also situated. They also have the other members of their extended family living with them. While at the diner, Greg takes care of the kitchen area, including the grill while Victoria stays on the register and looks after any type of trouble that comes their way, which seems to happen too often. The diner seems to be working smoothly when a stranger named Howard Lance shows up one fine morning and tells Victoria that he owns the piece of land in which their diner was built. As soon as everyone at the diner comes to know about the breaking news, the situation turns into a scramble. Victoria and Greg begin digging up the secrets from the past related to the ownership of the land on which The Charming Moose Diner was built. The secrets that they find leads them to the current situation in the present scenario when the stranger is murdered and found in the freezer of the couple’s diner. At first, Victoria and her grandfather Moose seem to make an unlikely team of sleuths but they learn the importance of working together in order to find the real killer and clear Victoria’s name as the prime suspect in the murder of Howard Lance.

The diner has been in the family of Victoria for decades. Victoria and her husband Greg seemed to be happy with their lives. Previously, the diner was owned by the grandparents of Victoria, who have now deeded it down to Greg and Victoria. The two seemed to take good care of it and the same time fetched a handsome income. But, after so many years, the deed becomes the center point of everyone’s talk after the arrival of a strange man named Howard Lance. Before this instance, no one related to the diner had ever heard of or seen Howard Lane. However, he does not care whether they know him or not and walks into the diner to handover the Eviction notice to Victoria. Howard informs them that his deceased father had never actually sold the land. If he would have done something like this, he would have recorded it on their property papers. Therefore, he serves the family of Victoria with the eviction notice. Victoria and Greg decide not to evict the place without indulging into a battle of ownership with Howard Lance. The situation causes the need for a family meeting with the members of the extended family of Victoria. The meeting is also attended by Moose, who is Victoria’s grandfather and her fellow sleuth. He was the first owner of the piece of land on which the diner was constructed, after purchasing it from the now deceased father of Howard Lance.
