Darren Shan is the pen name of Darren O’ Shaughnessy. He was born on 2nd July 1972 in London, England and begun writing back in 1999 to present. Darren Shan is married and has a son named Dante Kukulkan Shan. He has done several books that have been loved by all his readers both young and old. He is an Irish despite being born in London and does the dark novel writing. Besides the writing, he has also featured in various movie series like “The Saga of Darren Shan Young-Adult fiction series where he is the protagonist character. He started school at the age of three at English Martyr’s located just near the Elephant Castle. Three years later, they moved with the brother and the parents to a place known as Limerick. This is the place he has lived since then. Askeaton was the name of his primary school and later joined one of the secondary schools at Copsewood College, Pallaskenry. After high school, he went back to London to join Roehampton University, where he graduated with a degree in sociology.

His writing career began was he was 14. This was the time he bought his first typewriter machine and was able to write very many short stories using the machine. He also wrote on scripts, comic and books that he was unable to complete. Despite failing to complete writing the books he started, he never gave up because one year later, he was the runner up in a TV script writing for RTE that took place in Ireland. This was with the dark comedy story that was entitled “A day in the Morgue”. At 17, he was able to finish his first novel, though it was never published. He dedicated his entire life in writing when he was 23 years of age. This is after working for two years with a TV cable company in Limerick.

His love revolves around reading books and films. Currently, he possesses over a thousand of films and also original artwork collections. He loves taking long walks, watching football and a great fan of the Tottenham Hotspur football club, reading comic books and other books. His favorite music is the rock and pop.

He has written several series of which some have never been published. He is the author of “The Saga of Darren Shan series, “The City Trilogy”, “The Demonata”, “The Saga of Larten Crepsley” and many more. He has also done some short story books and some of his books have appeared as part of a TV show. For example, the first three books of the series “The Saga of Daren Shan” appeared in the Universal Studios to form part of a single movie known as “The Vampire’s Assistant” that was released on 23rd October 2009 in the United States.

He began his writing in 1999 and up to date, he has done so many books. The genesis book in his career was entitled the “Ayuamarca” that was published in 1999. The novel was later republished and name as “Procession of the Dead”. One year later he published his second book which he entitled as the “Hell’s Horizon” that was published in February 2000. These are the first two books written and published by Darren Shan, which also forms the first two books of the series “The City Trilogy”.

Procession of the Dead

This is the pioneer book that was done by Darren Shan. The book was initially known as “Ayuamacra” when it was first published. It is an adult novel, horror novel. It has 132 pages and the genesis book of the series “The City Trilogy”. The protagonist character in the book is known as Capac Raimi, who is a young and eager gangster. Capac has decided to start his new gangster life in a new city that is controlled by the cardinal. He takes the train to the city before hiring a taxi to take him to his uncle’s place. He is very confident that the uncle won’t reject him because he is also a gangster. The uncle lost his wife during the birth of their first child, something that has greatly depressed him. Due to this, his power in the city slipped and this is the reason why Capac has joined him to learn the tricks of business in the city. They finally got the deal that would enable him and the uncle plus three guards to meet the gangster. Unfortunately, the deal wasn’t as planned because the three guards and the uncle were shot dead by the gangster. Capac was lucky to escape the death, but was taken to the “Party Central” to face the Cardinal, who is the head of all gangsters and also the head and most powerful man in the city. The Cardinal decided to include him in his gangster and it is at this time that Capac gets to learn about who he is. He does not only learn of his real identity, but also a group of individuals known as Ayuamarcans and even the secrets about his past.

Hell’s Horizon

This is the second book of the series “The City Trilogy” and also the second novel that was written by Darren Shan on February 2000. It has 353 pages and the main character in the book is known as Al Jeery, who is an African American Soldier serving with the troops. The incident occurs when Al Jeery and his friend Bill Casey went for a fishing trip. On return, he decided to go and work as a soldier under the troop. He is the personal guard of the cardinal, who is an extremely powerful man in the city. It is after returning that he is asked to carry out the investigation of the murder that occurred in the Skylight Hotel. When he realized that his girlfriend, Nicola Hornyak is the victim of the murder and that she was brutally treated, he gets even more concerned about the investigation. The investigation leads Al Jeery in the world of madness just after learning about his past.
