The list of the favorite television shows of author Arnold include, The West Wing, The Office, Community, The X Files, Six Feet Under, Arrested Development, Seinfield, and the Game of Thrones. The things that author Arnold hates include wet socks, liars, and olives. The Mosquitolnd brought a lot of fame for author Arnold for which he is very much grateful. He believes that the publishers did the right thing by keeping faith in him. The description of the young adult novel in the form of a funny, poignant, raw, smart, and insightful story was very much appreciated by the readers worldwide. They also liked the portrayal of the chief protagonist in the form of a vulnerable, wounded, lovable, brave, and witty person. Author Arnold has said that before starting to write this novel, he used to write occasional stories and manuscripts. For a period of around two years, he was mostly involved in middle grade stories. Arnold was actually afraid to write something on a serious note. It was after his wife gave him the news that he is going to be a father very soon, made him realize that he needs to start taking his writing seriously. Eventually, author Arnold began developing the story of Mosquitoland. It was his honesty and dedication that enabled him to complete the writing part of the novel and publish it successfully. Author Arnold is a firm believer of the fact that if are honest with your work, you can’t lie while you are doing it. The reason behind the specific setting of the story is that author Arnold himself used to live in Jackson, Mississippi when he was young. After that, he moved to Ashland, Ohio. This gave him the chance to use the best of both the places and utilize them in the novel.
One of the initial books written by author David Arnold is titled as ‘Mosquitoland’. This book was released by the Viking publication in the year 2015. The main character described in the story of this book is called Mim Malone. She lives in Ohio and in the later parts of the novel, it is shown that she moves to the wastelands of Mississippi. The beginning sequence of the book depicts that the family of Mim Malone living in Ohio collapses suddenly. Due to this, she is forced to leave her home located in northern Ohio and shift to Mississippi. There, in spite of her dislike, she is made to live in a medicated milieu along with her father and stepmother. Before she could get herself settled in the new surrounding, Mim Malone comes to know that her mother living in Cleveland is sick. Therefore, without thinking anything else, Mim decides to ditch her new life and catches a bus traveling northbound. She hopes to reach her real mother and her real home as quickly as possible. During her journey, Mim Malone comes across several quirky travelers. The journey appears to be a never ending one for her and the turns that come in the way of her 100 mile journey had never come to her mind ever before. But, Mim knows that she has to confront her demons and has to redefine her notions of loyalty, love, being sane. In the end, the novel appears to be as heartbreaking as it is hilarious. Author Arnold has done a great job in describing it in an unforgettable voice. The readers found it to be a modern odyssey of America. The book went on to be nominated for the Teen Book Award from Milwaukee County in the year 2016. It was also nominated for a Goodreads Choice Award in the category of the Best Young Adult Fiction in the year 2015.
Another interesting novel written by author David Arnold is titled as ‘The Strange Fascinations of Noah Hypnotik’. It is expected to be published in the year 2018 by the Viking Children’s publication. The story depicted in this book revolves around a boy who experiences hypnosis. After that, he finds that everything around him has changed mysteriously. But, four strange fascinations from the previous life still remained constant. In order to find out what happened to him, he sets out to investigate the strange fascinations. The strange fascinations lead him to different paths that he had never crossed in his life. In spite of all the difficulties that come in his way, Noah continues to move ahead as he knows that if he wants to get closer to the answers to all his questions he should be able to overcome all the difficulties. His dedication and determination to not subside until he becomes successful in knowing what had happened to him and why he did not forget about the 4 fascinations after the hypnosis like all his other memories. Similar to the previous books written by author Arnold, this book too is expected to do well after its release.
