Delores Fossen has written over fifty romance novels (even a few historical westerns and romances involving paranormal elements), articles and short stories that have made their way into national magazines, and has made USA Today’s bestselling list. Fossen’s books have sold millions worldwide; she has won the Romantic Times Reviewers’s Choice and Bookseller’s Best awards. Fossen was also a finalist for a Rita, a very prestigious award. She is the author of many series: the “Five Alarm Babies” series, “Sweetwater Pass” series, “Texas Paternity” miniseries, and “The Marshals of Maverick County” series, as well as many more.
The “Five-Alarm Babies” series focuses on different people taking center stage in each book, typically two people who do not know each other at the beginning, and originally set out to get something back (usually get their kid back) from the other main character. They change their minds once they meet the other character and fully see that person’s situation. What brings them together is their mutual love of a kid that the two people have in common.
“Undercover Daddy” is the first book in her “Five-Alarm Babies” series, a series Harlequin Intrigue. This book focuses on Elaina McLemore and Luke Buchanan. A federal agent named Luke Buchanan is after the people responsible for taking his son away and illegally giving him up for adoption. He finally tracks down the woman (her name is Elaina McLemore) who has been raising his son (Christopher). He wants nothing more than to make her pay, but when he comes upon her, he finds that he is not the only one who wants a piece of her. Once he meets her, he sees the fear in her eyes, and his plans to get revenge on her go by the wayside. Instead, he decides to protect her (and his child) from any harm that should come her way. He also has more than just protecting her and the child that they both love on his mind. He quickly develops strong feelings for Elaina.
This book has gotten praise for being suspenseful, for being a great read, and for Fossen’s ability to entertain the reader. Other readers like this novel for its ability to keep the readers guessing, and for keeping the reader’s undivided attention. This is a page turner, these fans assert. This book has drawn criticism for having too much swearing, too much action for a book series involving babies. Some fans feel like some of the dialogue could have used a little more work. The characters, some felt could have benefited from some more work as well, some felt that they were kind of cardboard like- without much depth to them.
“Stork Alert” is the second book in her “Five-Alarm Babies” series. This book focuses on Kelly Manning and Nick Lattimer. She finds out that her kid might have been involved in a baby swap, and deals with the problem right upfront. Nick Lattimer stands in her way; he is rich, attractive, and powerful. Nick has the ability to lay a claim to both babies; both the one she has been raising and the son that she has never even met but is biologically hers. There is someone who wants to kill both kids, and it is up to Kelly to keep them safe. She needs the help of a man that she should not trust. but one of the few people who loves the children as much as she does.
The book has been praised for having an excellent story, the book features an unpredictable story, and for the readers being able to finish one and start the next book right away. Readers will be interested in the story for the entire book. This book has been criticized for being too short, not including any returning characters (or even a mention of them in other books), and for not being as intense as some of Fossen’s other books that she has written. Some readers found this book to be dismal, featuring one dimensional characters, and yet another book that features the line “It was not just about the sex” which made some readers insulted in the romance genre. It made them think that all romance novels and stories were all the same and there was not much deviation from any of the authors on this.
No word on whether or not there will be an adaptation of any kind for this series.
“Maverick Sheriff” is the first book of the “Sweetwater Ranch” series. This book features Sheriff Cooper McKinnon. When he saves a little boy’s life, it opens old wounds for Cooper. It takes Cooper back to two years ago when his own son died. It is still a loss that haunts him. He wants to adopt the child, but his adoptive mother, Jessa Wells, does not want that to happen. She is willing to do almost anything to keep her son. He shares the child’s rare blood type, and Jessa agrees to allow the man to help her son. She grows fond of Cooper, and knows that working with him is her best bet to keep her son alive.
When Delores was a child, she used to collect hair strands, various kinds of fibers, and fingerprints of the people who would visit her home. Her ability to put evidence together was good enough that when her chocolate Easter bunny got one of its ears nibbled, she was able to figure out that it was her sister who did it. Of course it helped that her sister had chocolate on her breath. At one point, she thought she wanted to become an FBI agent, but soon found that she would rather use her imagination to come up with her own FBI agents and let people read about them. She has four kids with an Air Force colonel, she has lived in different parts of the United States and in England. Besides writing, she has also spent time as a special education teacher, a rehab counselor, and she was also a captain in the Air Force. Now, she writes and is a stay-at-home mom, two jobs she says she enjoys more than any other. Fossen is always writing and putting books out, it is amazing she has time for anything else. She continues to collect fingerprints, fibers, and hairs when she cleans up her house.
