Dragon Stone Saga is the title of an ongoing literary series authored by American woman of letters Kristian Alva. Alva, whose niche is young adult and science fiction and fantasy, is presently domiciled in California alongside her pet cats and a fish. Alva’s pastime is reading indiscriminately but she has a soft spot for books within the epic fantasy category. Alva hails from a background of scribblers and educators. In the run-up to publishing books, Alva worked as a staff writer and surrogate writer. Various magazines have published articles authored by Alva. A one-time technical writer, Alva once served as a waitress in a bar prior to attending college.

In matters family, Kristian Alva is married and has three young kids. Even then Alva is a full-time writer and often has a hard time trying to balance her family and writing ambitions. The ensuing hectic often prevents her from sleeping satisfactorily. Some of the personalities who influenced Kristian Alva include inventor Steve Jobs and engineer Steve Wozniak. Literary figures whose works inspired Alva include the late English penman Terry Pratchett, French philosopher-cum-writer Albert Camus, American editor-cum-author Jack Kirby, American recluse Jerome David Salinger, and Frenchman Emile Zola. Writers who have since passed away aside, Alva likes Englishman Neil Gaiman, Louisiana-born and Texas-based penwoman Grace Draven though her most favorite author is fellow fantasy scribbler Melanie Rawn.

Dragon Stone Saga: Inspiration for Writing
Kristian Alva was a voracious reader in her formative years and she read any readable material that she came across. According to author Alva, the inspiration for writing Dragon Stone Saga series resulted from her love for age-old fantasy characters including dragons, malicious emperors, magicians, and pixies. This prompted Alva to make a fictitious world wherein the said characters (co)existed. Alva opined that the synthesized characters would appeal to both teenagers and adults. Alva’s books have been translated into other languages, including Spanish.

Dragon Stone Saga: Section on Books
Alva’s literary works ranges from a novel series to a novella. Originally, Alva’s serialized Dragon Stone Saga was merely a trilogy. However, Alva has since developed the trilogy due to demand; and there are about nine books in the said series and an omnibus too. The first book in the Dragon Stone Saga series was originally published in June 2011, titled Dragon Stones. The title of the book doubles up as the title of the series. This book is shelved under the fantasy (magic books), young adult, and fiction genres.

Elias Dorgumir is the featured main character in the Dragon Stone Saga series. Meet protagonist Elias Dorgumir: an inquisitive, impulsive, intelligent, and courageous teenage boy. Dorgumir, who has magical powers, was orphaned while still young after his parents perished in a war. As such, his grandmother, named Carina, took Dorgumir in and reared him; the two are domiciled in a small town in a kingdom whereby a paranoiac emperor rules with an iron fist. The grandmother, who was a healer and past master at using herbs, passed on her knowledge to Dorgumir to help the boy survive disasters. By and by, his grandmother and guardian dies; sadly, Dorgumir has a hand in her death, albeit unintentionally.

The turning point in Alva’s first book in the Dragon Stone Saga series, Dragon Stones, is when Elias Dorgumir goes to a forest and chances on a beehive and a damnable emerald stone while harvesting the honey. The egg-sized emerald stone originated from a dragon’s throat. Against Catina’s better judgement, Dorgumir declines to keep the news of the stone under wraps and takes the item back to where he found it. Dorgumir seals his fate when decides to sell the stone but a prospective buyer gets cold feet and states that it is cursed. News of the stone attracts the wrath of the emperor, named Emperor Vosper. The unfolding story as Dorgumir runs for his dear life from Vosper’s soldiers amid fortunes and misfortunes proves that Dorgumir is indeed a precocious teenager.
