Hailing from Midland, Texas, is the American author Eileen Wilks who is well known for her creative take upon the urban fantasy genre. Writing for some years now she’s produced a number of award winning books and titles that have gained her acclaim worldwide. With her first book published in 1996, she’s been writing to this very day, as readers flock to her work time and time again.

Early and Personal Life

Born on the third of November in 1952, the American author is currently fifty-two years of age with a strong literary legacy behind her. Having resided in a number of places, with Canada and Venezuela to name a few, as well as a variety of different American states, she’s a well traveled writer too, with a unique and open perspective. Recently moving from West Texas in the summer of 2012, she went on to live in Norman, Oklahoma and she now lives and writes in Midland, Texas, where she currently resides to this day. Writing her first book in 1996, she has had a lifelong love for writing, a passion which is clearly displayed within her work that’s infectious for both her and her readers. Showing a clear love for fantasy as well, she has been able to put this passion into her appreciation for the genre, giving it her own unique take.

Brought up in Monahans, she is Texas through and through, as she continues to write there, as it provides her with much of her inspiration and creativity. Finding her own niche in an already crowded genre, she was able to build herself a highly successful and lucrative career. Clearly just as much in her element now as she ever was, she continues to write to this day gaining more and more readers worldwide at a rapid rate.

Writing Career

Writing her first novel The Loner and the Lady in 1996, Eileen Wilks quickly found she had a passion for writing and was particularly interested in the romance genre. Quickly becoming an established figure in her field, this book was originally part of a trilogy titled the Rasmussin Clan series. Her book stood out though and she quickly became a well regarded figure within the industry, gaining the attention of both critics and readers alike.

Contributing to the popular Mantalk franchise as well, that was comprised of a number of authors, she began to build this into a number of other Silhouette Desires books she had done. All this led the way to building up her own franchises, most notably her Lupi titles centered around her eponymous protagonist, along with her Dynasties books as well. This all led to her becoming the bestselling author that she is known as today, with a wide range of readers worldwide. When she turned her hand towards the world of Lupi she became more fantasy oriented, specifically setting herself within the urban genre. Whilst she had been more romance led in the past, this helped pave the way to her later career, building the foundation blocks for much of her material. Due to her past work, she has also managed to hone her skills in character development as well, creating better defined protagonists.

Respected amongst her peers and contemporaries, she’s managed to make quite an impact within the industry during the course of her career. Not without critical awards as well, she’s received awards for her contributions to the field of romantic suspense, along with numerous nominations too, as her work hasn’t gone unnoticed by critics either. Gaining both critical and commercial success, with her books achieving bestseller status, he career is going from strength-to-strength and it shows no signs of stopping anytime soon.

The Loner and the Lady: Rasmussin Clan

First published in 1996 on the first of May, this was to be the book that introduced Eileen Wilks as a new and exciting talent on the literary scene. Being the first of a three part trilogy titled the ‘Rasmussin Clan’ series, this went under the Silhouette Desire label, a well known and popular romance brand. With her clear characters and themes, she paved the way for much of what was to follow, establishing her as one to watch within the industry.

Featuring the characters of the beautiful damsel Sophie who meets the brooding hero Seth Brogan, it appears at first glance that these archetypes are typical of their genre. Setting up her characters though, Wilks finds common ground here as she’s developing her voice and style, as glimmers of her own unique personality begin to shine through. Subverting the tropes of the genre, the characters maybe typical, but with an interesting intention, which shows why Wilkes became a writer to watch.

Waking up in a strange bed, Sophie doesn’t know where she is, as she finds herself being attended to by the tall and brooding Seth Brogan. Not knowing how she got there, or why, she realises that she is stranded in his cabin, as people were after her. They both soon embark on a passionate affair, as they find they can’t hold themselves back from each other any longer. Who is after her though? How did she come to be there? What will become of the loner and the lady?

Blood Lines

The third book in her ever popular world of Lupi series, this was initially published on the 2nd of January, 2007, to an already eager audience. Having built up her name to a bankable and reliable one at this stage, people knew what to expect from her, as she gave her trademarked suspense and well defined characters. Building on the plot of the previous two novels, it helped to further establish the in-depth world for the long-running series that was to follow.

Working with her werewolf bond-mate, the FBI agent Lily Yu is helping the secret service identify some elected officials who have accepted demonic pacts. That’s when Cynna Weaver, the fellow agent of Lily, reveals that her former teacher is behind this pacts, with him being a demon master. They must then work together as a demon commits a horrific murder, as they aim to stop any more lives being taken. Will they be able to stop the killing, or will they be next? Can sorcerer Cullen Seabourne offer any help? What will become of them all as they uncover the truth behind the blood lines?
