The “Frontiers: Saga” series written by self published author Ryk Brown is from the science fiction genre that covers a hundred years of adventures that humans go on in space. The series started in the year 2011, when “Aurora: CV-01” was released. Each part has fifteen episodes, with a total of five parts; this gives the series seventy-five episodes to the series. Any and all story arcs that are begun during a part get completed by the end of the same part.

The series is set far into the future, the year 3472 to be more precise. Planet Earth is still recovering from darkness and despair that lasted for one thousand years. It was caused by a bio-digital plague which almost destroyed the entire population of Earth.

They are able to find the Data Ark, which is a repository containing human knowledge that was left behind by the fallen ancestors. This allowed the technology of Earth to advance two hundred years ahead in only half that time. They were able to discover that they had settled star systems close by, all long time ago. They found out that they had grown into large planetary civilizations that branched out and settled further into space. Another discovery that they made was that those worlds had been torn apart by the very same plague that hit Earth, and each had to struggle to rise from the ashes in order to thrive once again.

One of these worlds was able to survive by taking what they required from their neighbors, by force. This planet, over hundreds of years, they have become an interstellar empire, and they have conquered all but one world that has human inhabitants on it within a fifty light year radius.

The people of Earth hurry up to get a defense ready against this new found threat. This planet, that spawned humanity, may not have the infrastructure, man power, or the political will to mount a defense in this case.

“Aurora: CV-01” is the first novel in the “Frontiers: Saga” series and was released in the year 2011. A world is getting back on their feet after a devastating plague all but destroyed them. There is a young man looking to make a name for himself, and get out of his father’s shadow.

There is also a ship that is manned by a bunch of graduates, right out of the academy. Another thing, is a top-secret experimental propulsion system.

What is in store for UES Aurora’s crew, is something greater than any one of them could have ever imagined up. This is just the start.

Fans of the novel enjoyed this and how much action there was; it has an easy story to follow here. One of the best self published books that you will find. The characters work, are funny, realistic yet original, and developed nicely as the book went on; the universe building and detail all over the place. Readers found that they could not put down the book at all, and got so drawn into the book that they got all the other stories in the series.

“The Rings of Haven” is the second novel in the “Frontiers: Saga” series and was released in the year 2012. A ship has gotten stranded halfway through the galaxy, which leads to a long and difficult journey back home. Their home world is anxiously awaiting them coming back. They have just started running out of food.

Aurora’s crew must trust their brand new allies so that they can survive. The situation that they find themselves in might just be a lot more serious than they originally imagined. The actions that they make might have consequences all across the galaxy. Even getting back home may have gotten more complicated.

Fans of the novel found their interest was held while Brown told a good story. Readers got pulled into things, and now cannot break away for even a second, they must keep on reading every story in the series. Everything here is likable: the characters, story, and plot; it is an easy read. These books are fun to read, and are well written; some cannot wait to get into the next section of the story.

“The Legend of Corinair” is the third novel in the “Frontiers: Saga” series and was released in the year 2012. A captain is finally coming into his own, while there are some refugees stranded while on the ship. There might be a traitor among them. They go into the land of the enemy that is chasing after them.

Legends can become a reality in some unexpected ways at times. Fate has Aurora’s crew quite firmly in its hands.

Fans of the novel found this book finally starts giving something new to things, instead of imitating other science fiction series. There is starting to be some more development for each individual character. Ryk Brown seems to be getting better at writing about these people, as he gets to know them, but also he has had more time to write about each character to allow the readers to get to know them more. The more he writes about them, the more they are able to be developed.

“Freedom’s Dawn” is the fourth novel in the “Frontiers: Saga” series and was released in the year 2012. A ship is under attack, and a world is getting close to a civil war. Some distraught people are trying to find a way to start again, and a crew that is tired from battle is barely holding together.

Legends, too, can be in need of help at times. The Aurora’s crew, the Corinairans, and the Karuzari have to find some way to come together and work with one another or they all may perish.

Fans liked that the book has strong female characters. The novel shows that Ryk Brown is honing his ability to write; each time out, he writes stronger novels. Yet again, it has a great story and the action scenes were made compelling. He writes awesome books each time out that keep readers on the edge of their seats. By the end, readers were left wanting more.
