Coming from Hampshire, England, the British born author Hannah Dennison has become a unique and warm presence within the cozy mystery genre. With her well defined British sense-of-humor she’s currently best known for her character Vicky Hill, the intrepid female reporter living in Devon. Moving to California with her daughter to pursue a career in screen-writing, she now resides in Portland, Oregon, where she writes to this present day.
Early and Personal Life
Born in Hampshire, England, in a small village called Old Basing, Hannah Dennison grew up surrounded by history. Moving to America to pursue a career in screen-writing in Los Angeles, she spent some time there getting acquainted with the movie sets before moving onto Portland, Oregon. Living there currently she now spends most of her time reading and writing, as she manages her career as a successful novelist.
Using a lot of her past experience from where she grew up and the surrounding environment which she was brought up in, Dennison has carved herself a highly lucrative career. With a lot of the settings from her home-town and the surrounding area, she has really been able to establish a sense of location over the course of her career. This has all managed to resonate well with her readers, who have come in large numbers looking for the sense of realism, warmth and character that she provides.
Meeting with the likes of Steven Spielberg during her time working in Los Angeles, getting an in-depth look at the Indiana Jones sets, she managed to set her sights on writing. This all helped along with reading a number of scripts, as she managed to get a clear understanding of what worked in regards to narrative. Taking what she had learned there, she then went onto create her own career and produce her own books.
All this added up towards her becoming a more fully rounded writer, as she moved onto Portland in Oregon with her husband where still currently writes to this very day. Settling down she has managed to achieve her lifelong dream and write for a living, creating work that has a strong legacy behind it. This is something that she will continue on into the foreseeable future as she carries on writing with more to follow.
Producing her first book, the start of the Vicky Hill mysteries, she had made her first foray into the world of publishing in 2008, as she made an impact on the literary scene. Known for her perhaps most popular series, the Vicky Hill mysteries, she has also written the Honeychurch Hall mysteries series as well, another popular line of books. With a keen sense of mystery and intrigue she was able to draw her reader in, whilst keeping them there with the down to earth characters that exuded both wit and charm.
Gaining readers worldwide, she has received both commercial success and critical acclaim from all corners, as she garners praise from both her peers and contemporaries. Not just gaining plaudits for her books, she has also been given awards as well, providing her with the much needed recognition that she deserves for her contributions to the genre. With more set to follow in the future, there’s plenty more on the horizon set for this particular writer, as she continues writing to this very day.
Originally brought out on the fourth of January in 2011 by the Berkley Publishing group, it was the fourth book in the series that helped further establish the series. With the character of Vicky Hill, the sweet natured local reporter from the Devon, being an already well regarded protagonist who’s is familiar with her many readers and fans, it jumps straight into the action. Using humor and wit, it manages to capture what’s worked before and what’s made the series so beloved by many, bringing it back once more for another installment in the franchise.
Setting up an illegal campsite, a group of travelling gypsies have pitched themselves in an area known as The Grange, which is much to everyone in the towns dismay. Following this there is then a rash of thefts concerning silver throughout the area and the gypsies are then blamed due to the manner in which they’re perceived by others. After a body is discovered in a stream, the Devonshire reporter Vicky Hill steps up to investigate, as she believes there is more to this case than meets the eye on first glance. What have the travelers, if anything, got to do with the case in hand and are they actually to blame for what has happened there? Just who is responsible for the murder and why, and can Vicky find out who it is before they try and strike again, or worse? Can they find out the truth behind the so called thieves?
Deadly Desires at Honeychurch Hall
Initially published in 2011 on the 5th of May, this was to be the second book in the Honeychurch Hall Mysery series, as it has so far reached two entries with more due to follow. Continuing to focus on the on-goings of the Honeychurch Hall Estate, it captures what came before perfectly, managing to provide a sense of warmth, whilst simultaneously offering a sense of mystery and intrigue as well. With characters returning once again as well, it retains a sense of familiarity for readers, as they can revisit them and find out what has been going on in their lives since the last novel.
Suspicion has fallen upon the residents of Honeychurch Hall Estate, as everyone there is being suspected of murder after the transport minister’s body is discovered in their grounds. Given that he was to be putting a high speed train-line and rolling stock depot there it would seem that everyone would have a motive for his untimely death. Trudy Wynne is the nemesis to the protagonist Kat Stanford, as she lost her husband to Kat and is out for revenge, as she hopes to humiliate Kat’s mother, the secret bestselling romance novelist Krystalle Storm. Who could have committed the murder and will they strike again? Can Kat stop Trudy wreaking her terrible revenge and solve the case? What will become of them all as they discover some deadly desires at Honeychurch Hall?Book Series In Order » Authors » Hannah Dennison
