About J Kenner:
Author Julie Kenner was born in Mountain View, California but grew up in Austin Texas. She grew up with her mother and father (her father worked as an aeronautical engineer and her mother made a living as a secretary). As a young girl she knew she was going to write novels and frequently to this to her parents. She then proceeded to write her very first story, Kitty Claws. After that Kenner continued to write stories and poetry, from girlhood right through college. Kenner received a bachelor’s degree in radio-television-film from the University of Austin (Austin, TX), and then went on to attain a law degree from Baylor University (Waco, TX). Kenner did go on to use her degree to practice law in California. While still practicing with some of her intelligent lawyer coworkers one of steered Julie to the Julie Garwood (her books, not the woman herself), and then that was it there was not stopping her path toward becoming an award winning writer. Kenner later moved back to Austin, TX and participated in both writing and practicing law. Kenner did both for a matter of five years until, in 2004 she gave up practicing law and focused solely on writing and being a mother. She lives and writes in central Texas with her husband, two daughters, and several cats. Kenner supports many charities and particularly favors the charity Love Without Boundaries.
Awards and Praise
Julia Kenner is a New York Times best-selling fiction author. Kenner also has earned a top spot in USA Today. She writes in the genres of romance, erotic romance, fantasy, and young adult. Kenner also uses a pen name of J.K. Beck. Kenner’s first book was published in 2000. Kenner has regaled praise from Publishers Weekly as an author who embodies eccentric characterizations and a flair for dialogue. She has won numerous awards the first of which was in 2001 when she was the winner of the Romantic Times Reviewer’s Choice Award for the Best Contemporary Paranormal novel of 2001. Kenner also went on to win the Reviewers International Organization’s award for best romantic suspense of 2004. In 2005 she also won, from the Reviewer’s International Organization, for the best paranormal novel of 2005. She also was the winner of the National Readers’ Choice Award for best mainstream book for the year of 2005. In addition, she was also a two-time RITA finalist. She has numerous single novels and many series of books also, all of which have an avid following from a very large fan base.
Kenner’s first books came out in 2000 and included a paranormal romance that was similar to The Little Mermaid; it was about a cat and the master, calling it The Cat’s Fancy. Since her first published works in 2000, Kenner was set to produce 3 books every year after. She now has well over twenty books accumulated in her writing bag. Kenner has amassed a long list of books: Aphrodite’s Embrace, Aphrodite’s Flame, Paranormal Romance, Aphrodite’s Passion, Aphrodite’s Secret, Beyond Suspicion, California Demon, Carpe Demon, Dead Friends and Other Dating Dilemmas, Deja Demon, Demon Ex Machina, Demons Are Forever, The Demon You Know… , just to name a few. She has also written a number of series that fans are crazy about also: The Blood Lily Chronicles, A Demon-Hunting Soccer Mom, The Game, Good Ghouls, the Protectors, and The Time of Your life.
Kenner’s first endeavor in the category of urban fantasy (also called mommy lit) was Carpe Demon, subtitled; Adventures of a Demon-Hunting Soccer Mom. This undertaking proved particularly fruitful and resulted in a Booksense pick, and Target break-out book. Kenner also gained other awards and honors, and even a movie deal. Carpe Demon, is in the development department with Warner Brothers-1492 Pictures (as a feature film), everyone in Julie’s camp hopes that a film will be a reality someday. Kenner writes screenplays and has several out to movie companies in the hopes for one to become a big screen hit one day.
Fans love the juxtaposition of the two main characters in Aphrodite’s Kiss (part of The Protector series), Zoe Smith and George Bailey Taylor. While Zoe has superhero powers (however in control of them she may or may not be) and is considered a Halfling, this is because she is being considered only half mortal. For her twenty-fifth birthday Zoe has to pass tests and those tests include not letting the whole world fall to shambles. While George isn’t the typical hero; he has endearing qualities that make him remarkably human. For example when he meets assistant librarian Zoe he finds can’t help from becoming immediately flustered. Even though he is undeniably sexy, George also has money trouble, so as the story unfolds when a man promises George a very large sum of money for the return of a meaning item, George jumps at the chance, little does he know how one road will collide with the other.
Like in many of her other works, Kenner’s main character in Tainted (the first in the line of Blood Lily Chronicles) is a strong female heroin – esk, superhero character. Lily Carlyle dies while trying to kill her sister’s stalker, but when she is laying there about to die she is given a second chance, an angel offers her another shot at life… Lily has the chance to get to Heaven by becoming an assassin for the classic force of good. Just as you would expect from a strong super hero character, she is ready for the challenge but she doesn’t know at the time that she may not be able to get out of her ordeal so easily. Lily awakens in the body of Alice Purdue, a young waitress whose generically happy life rings false when Lily begins training to assassinate demons. Many of Kenner’s recent and young adult books include the ever so popular vampire theme. She manages to intertwine strong female characters with a vampire story line. The Ghoul series includes two great examples; The Good Girls Ghouls Guide to Getting Even and Good Girls Ghouls Do. Teens, tweens, and young adults are drawn to the interesting strong characters that Kenner always delivers, and always in such a very tantalizing way!
Julie Kenner writes within a wide range of stories and fantasies. These include a combination of urban fantasy, off tilt romances, sexy contemporary, young adult, suspense, and an offshoot category of paranormal mommy literature. She also writes some screenplays, and has some floating around hopefully awaiting development in Los Angeles. She hopes to one day add an Official Screenwriting Bio to her list of accomplishments, but until then will have to settle for her many other numerous accomplishments.
Back in 1995 Julie and her husband moved back to Texas from Southern California (where they still live in Central Texas). Julie happily resides in her with two daughters, and several cats, and her husband. Julie continues to churn out exciting new novels every year, keeping fans waiting for what is coming next.
