J.L. Bryan is one of the popular authors of America, who has written many successful novels in his writing career based on the horror, paranormal, and science fiction genres. He is particularly famous for writing down the Songs of Magic series and The Paranormals series. Apart from the horror novels, Bryan has also written a number of standalone novels in his career. The paranormal and horror novels written by him are not recommended for the readers below 18 years of age as they contain many violent and frightening plot sequences. Before becoming an author, Bryan completed his graduation from the University of Georgia in the subject of English Literature and also joined the Oxford University for improving his writing skills. His study at the Oxford, mainly focussed on the Renaissance, English, and the Romantic period. Later, Bryan went on to study screenwriting at the UCLA. He has the unique style of mixing the elements of the supernatural, science fiction, paranormal, horror and fantasy genres into new and interesting kinds of stories. The Paranormals series written by Bryan feature novels based on different characters. Each novel of the series is tilted with the name of the primary character on whom it is based. The Songs of Magic series written by him has novels that focus on the fairy tales and revolve around the magical worlds of the central characters. As of today, Bryan lives happily in metro Atlanta along with his wife Christina and his son. He is very fond of pet animals and always has several cats and dogs roaming in his house all the time. Normally, Bryan likes to spend most of his time in writing his paranormal and horror novels, but when he gets some free time, he likes to use it to spend some quality time with his family and pet animals. Bryan also likes to have the joyful experience of serving and taking care of his son and the pet animals in his house. He has formed a small community of pet animals in his small house and likes to play with them in order to get some relief from the stresses of life.

The Paranormal series written by author J.L. Bryan consists of a total of 4 novels published between the years 2010 and 2012. Each novel of the series features a specific central character, around whom the whole plot of the novel revolves. The names of the novels are also based on the same primary characters. The first novel of the series was published as an ebook edition in the year 2010. The novel was titled ‘Jenny Pox’ and also featured Jenny Morton as the main character. The plot of the novel opens with the introduction of Jenny Morton as an eighteen year old girl, who seems to have a horrifying and frightening secret, no one is aware of. Whoever touches her, gets infected with a deadly disease called Jenny Pox, which is considered to a supernatural plague. In order to prevent others from knowing her secret and also to avoid contact with them, Jenny lives by a single and most important rule, never to touch anyone or let anyone touch her. She continues to follow the rule strictly for many years and a considerable period of time passes in which she avoids physical contact with others. Not having any contact with other people for many years has made her lonely and isolated in her tiny rural town. Some more days pass in the similar lonely way, after which Jenny meets a boy, whom she is able to touch without any serious consequences.

The boy is named Seth and he finds that Jenny has some attractive feelings for him. However, Seth is believed to have a girlfriend named Ashleigh Goodling, who is manipulative and ruthless in nature. Jenny does not want to lose Seth as she has found someone in her life after years of loneliness and does not want to go back to the same state once again. Therefore, she is required to learn how to use her deadly pox present inside her in to confront Ashleigh. Jenny is required to do it any all costs in order to be with Seth for the rest of her life. However, Ashleigh is also believed to wield some secret powers, which are considered to be the most dangerous of all. The novel was liked by many readers all over the world and was also appreciated by the critics for its unique content. Everyone found the description of the characters to be strong enough and compelling. Even the supporting characters are very well defined by the author. Author Bryan has done a wonderful job in describing the settings of the plot, such as the town, the school, as well as the people around Jenny Morton. The novel features many elements about teenagers, but it is not recommended to those below 18 years of age. The plot of the novel is full of sexual content, graphic language, drug abuse, intense and violent scenes, as well as horrific plot sequences. The success of the novel helped it to win the Red Adept Indie Award in the year 2010. This motivated author Bryan to write similar successful novels in the series.

The second novel of the series was published in the year 2011 by the Smashwords Edition publishing house. It was titled ‘Tommy Nightmare’ and featured the primary characters in the form of Fallen Oak, Jenny Morton, Ashleigh Goodling and Seth. The plot of the novel opens up with Fallen Oak or ‘Tommy’, who is shown as recovering from the deadly Jenny Pox plague. Beside her recovery, it is depicted that someone is trying to hunt down Jenny Morton in order to make use of her deadly powers. On the other hand, it is revealed that Ashleigh Goodling also possesses certain secret powers. She and Seth are considered to be in love with each other, but after knowing that Ashleigh has some powers similar to Jenny, he is expected to face the opposite of what he believes to be love from Ashleigh. In the opening sequence of the plot of the novel, Tommy is seen having a secret power of giving nightmares to anyone who touches him. His past life as a 12 year old boy is also depicted by the author during which he used to live with his foster parents. After that, the plot begins from where it had ended in the first novel of the series. Seth and Jenny are forced to deal with the consequences of the showdown. Jenny in particular fears to see what she had done. At the same time, Tommy comes to their town looking for Ashleigh and he is not alone. The twists and turns of the plot of the novel as described by author J.L. Bryan surprises everyone. The readers enjoyed reading the unexpected surprises and were compelled to read it till the last page. The story of the novel is made even more captivating and incredible due to the unexpected alliances and love triangles depicted by the author.
