During the first three years of her writing career, her novels were published as category romances which are under the Silhouette, Bantam Loveswept lines and Harlequin. Crusie signed a deal with St. Martin’s Press in 1995, and started writing single title novels, where her debut novel was Tell Me Lies. Changing to longer and non-category novels was a simple task for her. She has had a long partnership with Jennifer Enderlin, her editor, which has enabled her to explore numerous variety of story-telling aspect. Her great skill publishing has made her bestseller in USA Today, New York Times and The Wall Street Journal. Jennifer’s great novel Bet Me which was released back in 2004 is about Minerva Dobbs who is angry because getting dumped by her boyfriend. She is even angrier when she overhears her immediate ex betting Calvin Morrisey that he, Calvin, is not able to lure her into bed. Due to the bet she agrees to a dinner date with Calvin, planning to only have a good meal and then brush him off. They discover that they have pretty little in common: Calvin is a risk taker yet she is an actuary; Calvin likes Elvis Costello, she also likes Elvis. The issue is that the slightly overweight Minerva is attracted to Calvin — and interestingly he is attracted back. Even though they keep trying to avoid one another, destiny has contradicting ideas. Minerva’s idea of the, being “just friends” is continuously getting thwarted. The book features rich characters of family and friends as well. Two best friends of Minerva also pair up with the friends and business partners of Calvin. For Bonnie and Roger It is love-at-first-sight which results into a happily-ever-after. Lisa finds Tony very useful as well as good in bed. Emilio is Calvin’s college roommate. He runs an Italian restaurant that has yummy food where the friends often meet. Calvin’s ex, Cin, is working on a book on with the topic of love. Minerva’s sister called Diana is supposed to get married in a month’s time. The nephew of Calvin called Harry, is in the small League team that is coached by Tony, Calvin and Roger. Calvin brings Minerva stray cat that she names Elvis. He also teaches her how to cook and ensures her that it is fine to eat Carbs and butter. Bet Me shows Jennifer Crusie’s returning to romance after having a string of titles that geared towards women’s fiction crowd prior to 2004. Some readers applaud Jennifer’s idea of addressing on women and size. Minerva’s friend is often telling her that she has to have belief in the fairy tale. After Minerva accepts meeting Calvin for a picnic she loses one of her shoe and he gets it back to her. He finds something that she believed she had lost “magically”…
