With a dream of being a Charlie’s Angel bestselling author Jennifer Niven could not help but turning to her true passion, writing. By the age of ten Niven had already written many songs, poems, autobiographies, several picture books and a Christmas story. She was the illustrator that worked on her picture books which featured the alien Doodle Bugs. She also wrote a play about Laura Wilder’s sister and a series of prison mysteries. She had partially written a novel about Vietnam and she did a collection of short stories that had her as the main character, a famous detective rock star.

Jennifer Niven only started writing full time in 2000 and has written eight books since that time and they have been quite successful. She also works for and on her magazine, Germ, when she is not writing a novel. Her most recent novel is a first for young adults and it tells the story of a young boy bent on dying and a young girl who learned how to live from his exploits. The novel is called ‘All the Bright Places’. This title is the number 1 Kid’s Indie Next Book for the winter season, a New York’s best seller and an Amazon.com editor’s pick of the month. The movie rights have already been option and the foreign rights have also been sold to 44 territories. The web magazine Germ was created to compliment the novel and is operated by high school girls and it celebrates futures, beginnings and the moments in between.

Jennifer became a Barnes and Noble Discover Great New Writer after the publication of the book The Ice Master. This novel was released the same year Niven decided to become a full time writer. The novel was named by Entertainment Weekly as one of the top ten nonfictions of the year. The success of the book made it had to be translated in seven different languages, Italian, Portuguese, Chinese, Danish, German, French and Icelandic. The author and the novel made appearance in Newsweek, Entertainment Weekly, Glamour, The New Yorker, Outside, The New York Times Book Review, The London Times and The London Daily Mail and the Writer’s Digest to name a few. The novel had hour-long documentaries on the Discovery Channel, the History Channel and Dateline BBC. It was also the subjects of many Canadian, German and British TV documentaries. The book was nominated by the American Library Association and Book Sense for a number of awards and also received the esteemed Italian Gambrinus Giuseppe Mazzotti Prize for the year 2002.

The Ada Blackjack is Jennifer Niven second novel. This books tells the true story of the woman they call the ‘female Robin Crusoe’. The story tells about a young woman, unskilled and no knowledge of the outside world. She has only one focus in life and that’s to take care of her dying son. Despondent, divorced and impoverished, she is in search of money. She takes on the post of seamstress in a top-secret expedition into the Artic she was the only one to return. The book was translated in to French, Chinese and Estonian and named top five Artic books. The novel was also a Sense Top Ten Pick.

Jennifer Niven’s memoir tells the tale of survival, the tale of the most harrowing expedition that she the author experienced the utterly unforgettable adventure of high school during 1980. Titled the Aqua-Net Diaries this novel was published by Gallery Books in February of 2010 it was also optioned by Warner Bros as a TV series. This novel is vastly different from her two previous books in terms of genres and storyline.

The first of the Velva Jean series, Velva Jean Learns to drive was released in July of 2009 by Penguin. This book was based on her award winning film that has the same name. In August of 2009the novel was a Costco book of the month and was also Indie Pick of the month and Indie Next List. Velva Jean Learns to Fly is the second in the series and was also released by Penguin in 201. The third book entitled Becoming Clementine was published in September 2012 and the forth is now available and titled the American Blonde.

Jennifer along with her mother, Penelope Niven who is also an author, has conducted many seminars in writing and has addressed audiences worldwide. She is good at finding things out and answers to problems and applying lipstick without a mirror. She is very quick on her feet but can only run very fast for a short period of time. She knows every ABBA song by heart and these are just a few of her secret talents.

Jennifer’s favorite writer is her mother, Penelope Niven and her favorite book is entitled In Cold Blood. She keeps a Daryl Dixon doll, a Lana Turner alarm clock, a framed note and photo of her mother and a tiny armadillo on her writing desk. Her favorite storyline are those similar to that of the Magnificent Seven, the Dirty Dozen and such, a disparate group coming together and fighting for a common cause. She is a fan of Alice from Alice in Wonderland and also of people that do amazing things for other people. Jennifer thinks herself the doppelganger of Elle Woods from Legally blonde and has a crush on Sam Winchester from supernatural. Her favorite story of love is between John Keats and Fanny Brawne. Jennifer has only ever wanted to be one other writer for a day and it is Emily Bronte and Carole Lombard if she was to be an old-time movie star. Carole has managed to keep both glamorous and funny and this has been one of the important aspects that Jennifer adores. If not a writer, Jennifer would be living out her dream of being a rock star detective and member of the Charlie’s Angels or she might just have to be Mindy Kaling, a writer and so much more. Jennifer’s most favorite words are lovely, sunshine, obstreperous and the word yes. She is an amazing author with amazing books that deserves her fame and stature among all authors.
