Writing young-adult fiction, she’s managed to find a niche within her chosen genre that has resonated with fans worldwide, as she’s reached the top of the bestseller’s lists on numerous occasion.
Born on the 25th of June 1983, she’s overcome a lot to get where she currently is with her work. Now with a web-series currently being made out of her ‘Fallen Star’ series she’s finally found the success she was looking for. Currently she spends most of her time reading and writing as she continues creating her popular line of work daily.
Jessica Sorensen is known for making appearances at a number of book signings and conventions for her ever grateful fans. With her rich stories and finely tuned characters, she builds a familiarity with all her protagonists that allows her readers to relate to them in a way few other writers can manage. Looking primarily at romance, she charts the highs and lows of young love, as her audience get to experience everything alongside the author, whilst building a rapport with both her and her readers that has strengthened her brand and will continue to do so into the foreseeable future.
Jessica Sorensen has written over five series of novels now, as she increases her output daily. Not just focusing on young love in a high-school setting though, she has also gone into the realms of the paranormal, sometimes even branching into dystopian fiction. This can be seen in series such as her ‘Ember Death Collectors’ line of novels.
Her first novel, ‘The Fallen Star’, was written and published in 2011 and it was to mark the start of her ‘Fallen Star’ series of novels. This was quickly followed up by ‘The Underworld’ which came out the same year, and it was to be the second in the series. In total this initial series of hers had four books altogether.
Having gotten a number of awards for her work, Jessica Sorensen has not only gained commercial success, but critical adulation as well. ‘The Fallen Star’ gained some attention being her debut, as she also got a utopYA award for her work. Added to this are the bestseller lists that she has managed to get onto, such as USA Today and The New York Times. To add to all this she’s been heralded as ushering in a new-wave of young-adult fiction, revitalizing the genre in a much needed way. The fact that she’s breathed new life into the genre shows with both her fans and her critics. With a whole host of new novels set to be released, she’s got a number of continuing stories currently ongoing that will be brought out in the following years to come.
The Fallen Star
The debut novel from Jessica Sorensen and the first in her line of ‘Fallen Star’ books, this story was the one that introduced Sorensen’s brand of writing to her young-adult audience. In it there’s the tale of Gemma, an eighteen year old who feels emotionally void with a strong sense of ennui, as she feels like she will never shift out of her current state of mind. Emotion doesn’t come easy to her and it seems like nothing will ever change, that is until the new guy Alex arrives to turn all that on its head.
Handsome and aloof, she feels things for him that she never knew existed as emotions arise from deep within her coming up to the surface fighting to reveal themselves. It appears he doesn’t notice her at first as she feels he must hate her, as she resigns herself to a feeling that it’s a lost love. On top of all this though, she’s experiencing a number of terrifying nightmares that are happening more and more frequently with increasing regularity. Not only that, but monsters from her dreams are turning up in the real world as they’re becoming a reality for her on a more than daily basis.
She then realizes that she must get to the bottom of all this before it’s too late and discover what it is from her past that’s making things this way, otherwise the results could prove fatal. Will she and Alex ever become and item and can he notice her? What are the horrifying creatures and why is all this happening to her at this time? Can she uncover the secrets from her past before it’s too late and save herself in ‘The Fallen Star’?
This is the first in Jessica Sorensen’s much acclaimed ‘Nova’ series, which was initially published in 2013 and is now another ongoing series of hers. Here she introduces her readers to Nova Reed, a one-time drummer with dreams of making it big-time and becoming famous, now resigned to simply getting by as best she can, a shadow of her former self. The dreams of marrying her one true-love seem to have fallen at the wayside too, that is until Quinton Carter steps in to help redeem her and himself.
With a lost look in his eyes, she understands they may both be broken inside and it is with that that she attempts to mend the sores of the past and each other. That would all be fine though if he actually wanted it, but it seems that he’s closed himself off from ever loving again as he’s stuck in the past not wanting to hurt another. It seems that Nova has other intentions though and he soon starts to break as he lets his guard down and lets her in. Will Quinton ever be able to love again and are they able to overcome the mistakes of their past as they come together? What exactly are the secrets of their past and what are the skeletons in their closets? Can they create a future for themselves other than the one they have as they become who they truly want to be?
