Jodi Thomas is one of the top rated American author who writes on the historical romance novels. She was born in Amarillo, Texas and is a fifth generation Texan. This is because her grandmother was born in Texas in the covered wagon. After Jodi Thomas spent some time in Texas, she later moved to Lubbock where she attended the Texas Tech University. She holds a Master’s degree in Family Studies.
Jodi Thomas got married to Tom Kaumalats and they have got two sons. Her husband served in the United State Army and despite this, it was never a barrier for the couples to travel to different parts of the world. They later joined one profession that was teaching and about fifteen years later, she taught her family while staying at Amarillo High School. Her passion for writing began when she thought that her salary as a teacher wasn’t enough to educate her children who were in college by then. Through writing, she found it easier to pay for the both boys college fees. Besides this, she was also influenced by the books that she read. It wasn’t that the books were very romantic, but she always felt that every romance book she read was full of historical errors or relationships which she thought were implausible. In 1991, she finally left teaching to become a full time writer.
In 1984, she wrote her first novel about the Liano Cemetery in Amarillo, which was an article for the Oklahoma Daily. Apart from this, she also sold different short stories meant for children. Her genesis novel was entitled as Beneath The Texas Sky. This is a book that was voted as the best by the Romantic Times Reviewer’s. This, therefore, implies that it won the Romantic Times Reviewer’s Choice Award for the Best Romance. Due to this, it was nominated as the National Press Women Novel of the Year. Her second novel was known as the “Northern Star” that was published in 1990. Apart from this award, she has won several other awards and this makes her one of the most recognized American writers. She employs a perfect writing style in all her novels.
“Beneath The Texas Sky”
This is the pioneer book book that was written by Jodi Thomas in 1988. The book has about 382 pages and its first publication was in July 1988. The Protagonist character in the book is known as Bethanie Lane, who has to stay with her aunt known as Martha, who is married to Wilbur. This comes after the death of her mother. Since is living and being taken care of by the aunt and uncle, she gets to work in their hotel located in San Antonio, where she is not paid for her work.
The uncle was never fair to her and always wanted to torture her. He always behaved in an awkward manner and had some outside deals with unknown men. He, therefore, asked Josh Weston, who once visited the hotel where Bethanie worked to take them far away from the town. Since Bethanie had an informed opinion of what would happen in case she stayed, she never hesitated to convince Josh to run away with her. This could only be the rescue point from her ruthless uncle. Unfortunately, on the day they were traveling, the entire party was kidnapped by some Indians on their way. Despite Josh and Bethanie escaping, they were never very lucky as they ended up being caught later. The only thing that saved them was her red hair. This is something that brought them very close and finally it resulted into love. Through thick and thin, they maneuvered their way and finally found their way to his family ranch.
Upon their arrival on the ranch, Josh felt at home and this is the reason he decided to leave her with Ben, who is a brother bound in a wheelchair as he goes to the river to collect cattle. Things never went right way for Josh as he is lost in the river and everyone believes he is dead. After this, Bethanie’s uncle come looking for her and only to find her with Ben. Since Josh is no longer there, Ben takes care of Bethanie and protects her from her uncle by marrying her. She agrees to be her wife and they got to have a good life together. Later, Bethanie realizes that she is expecting her first baby.

Northern Star
This is the second book that was written by Jodi Thomas. Its initial publication was on 15th October 1990 and it has about 352 pages. The main character in the novel is known as Perry McLain, who is described to be very gorgeous. The perilous passion is just marking an end to the raging fury as evident in the beginning of the novel. Perry has undergone a challenging life under the powerful union army captain and she is very determined to escape. The army captain on the other hand is after pursuing and seeking vengeance for her rebellion. Despite this, Perry is still not sure whether to run away as she is also worried about the handsome hunter Kirkland. This is something that continues to plug her deep into the territory of her enemies, and into the tortuous flame of desire.
The hunter, who is very weak with fever thinks that Perry is just, but an alluring dream visiting her in the darkness. On the other hand, he finds it very hard to fade off her memories of warm caresses and urgent ecstasy of her closeness. He, therefore, finds the situation very tricky and finds it hard to make a decision.

You should read any and all of Jodi Thomas’s books. She is an author like no other. Her books are wonderful! I know because I have read everyone of them. I am an avid reader and I like many other authors, but Jodi Thomas’ books are exemplary and she has not disappointed me yet. I highly recommend you and everyone else to read her books and enjoy every moment. I did.
