Kate White is one of the well known New York Times bestselling authors from America, who has written numerous successful books based on the mystery and thriller genres. She was born on September 3, 1951 in Glens Falla, New York. Other than being a writer, Kate is also a popular speaker and magazine editor. She used to work for the Cosmopolitan as the editor in chief between the years 1988 and 2012. As an author, Kate has published a total of 10 books till now, 6 of which belong to the Bailey Weggins mystery series. The other four books are in the form of standalone novels based on the suspense genre. Besides this, author Kate has also written 4 books related to the nonfiction genre, that specifically deal with several business advice for working women. A number of books written by author Kate have featured on the bestseller list of New York Times. Kate has worked as the editor of ‘The Mystery Writers of the Cookbook of America’. Before becoming a novelist, author Kate used to attend the Union College, located in Schenectady, New York. She completed her graduation in the year 1972 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in the subject of English. Her career started in the magazine industry after she won the ‘Top 10 College Women’ contest that was organized by the Glamour magazine. Following this, Kate appeared on the cover page of the magazine and was offered the post of assistant editor at the same magazine.

During the time author Kate worked at the Glamour magazine, she worked very hard to become a prominent columnist and writer. This helped her to get offers of respectable positions from a number of other national magazines such as Mademoiselle. Later, Kate was appointed as the editor in chief of the Child magazine. After this, she was offered the same position in other magazines like Working Women, Redbook, and McCalls, between the years 1994 and 1998. Her next job as the editor-in-chief was in the Cosmopolitan magazine, where she joined in 1998. During her 14 year stay at the magazine, author Kate increased its monthly circulation by more than 650,000 readers. In the year, 2012, the circulation of the magazine peaked over 3 million readers and this was made possible because of the dedication and hard work of author Kate. The same year, Kate announced that she has decided to leave the magazine in order to give all her time towards writing and speaking.

The writing career of author Kate began with the mystery series, Bailey Weggins, in which she has completed writing 6 books. All the books in this series feature the lead character in the form of Bailey Weggins, who is described by author Kate as a true crime writer based in the New York City. The first book in this series went on to reach the number 10 position in the New York bestselling list. It was also chosen for the book club of Kelly Ripa and then received positive reviews from the Entertainment Weekly. The 4 standalone books written by author Kate in addition to the mystery series have also made it to the New York Times bestseller list. Following her success in the fiction genre, author Kate tried her hand at writing some nonfiction books as well. All her nonfiction books are aimed at giving career advice to the women in the business world. As far as the personal life of author Kate is concerned, she is married to a former news anchorman named Brad Holdbrook. The couple is blessed with a son named Hunter and a daughter named Hayley.

The six books written by author Kate White in the Bailey Weggins series were published between the years 2002 and 2012. Its debut novel was released under the title ‘If Looks Could Kill’, which was published in the year 2002 by the Grand Central publishers. In the beginning of the book, Bailey Weggins is introduced as a clever writer working for a well known women’s magazine named Gloss. As the plot of the book progresses, Bailey gets involved into a murder investigation because her boss and chief editor of the magazine named Cat Jones. Author Kate has described Jones as a woman who always gets the things done by her employees at any cost. So, when she finds out that someone has murdered her nanny, Jones asks Bailey to carry out the investigation and find out the murderer before the police does. Based on her initial investigation, Bailey suspects that the poisoned chocolate was meant to kill Jones as she was known to be fond of truffles. But later, she discovers that the duplicitous and beautiful nanny had a list of enemies of her own. As the investigation progresses, Bailey travels from New York City to Connecticut and from there to the Bucks County. All the way, she finds a number of suspects who seemed to have the motive of killing the nanny. Bailey even includes the catty editors of the Gloss magazine in the line of suspects. In the end, Bailey Weggins goes on to outwit the clever murderer and proves to the readers that she is a gutsy girl.

The second book of the series written by author Kate White was published under the title ‘A Body to Die For’. It was released in the year 2003 by the Grand Central publishing house. As the story of this novel begins, Bailey Weggins is shown to have tired after her previous investigation adventure. So, she looks to spend some relaxing time at a peaceful destination. Soon, she receives an invitation for a free weekend at one of the popular hotels in rural Massachusetts and jumps at it for some pampering. While enjoying the luxurious treatment and the soothing environment of the Cedar Inn, Bailey gets involved in yet another mayhem. She comes across a dead body wrapped as a mummy in one of the treatment rooms of the hotel. Suddenly, her holiday gets transformed into a murder investigation. The list of suspects includes a shady husband, a spurned lover, and some employees of the hotel who seemed trying to hide something. In addition to all this, Bailey is not able to keep her hands off the handsome homicide detective who is appointed to lead the murder investigation. In a desperate attempt to help the owner of the hotel, who is also a close friend of her mother, Bailey goes on to chase clues on the busy streets of the city. Soon, she gets into the sights of a deadly murderer, who would stop at nothing to prevent him from getting caught. In doing so, he would not hesitate to kill even Bailey. Now, she needs to try her level best to catch the killer and save her mother’s friend from getting wrongly convicted.
