A writer versatile in many different genres, the American author Mario Acevedo is a highly adept full-time novelist. With a past working as infantry and serving in aviation for the army, he writes science-fiction, horror and thriller mysteries. Utilizing a sense-of-humor as well, he is well known for his warm wit that makes his books both fun and accessible to read and enjoy.

Early and Personal Life

Growing up in Las Cruces in New Mexico in the United States, Mario Acevedo was initially born in El Paso, Texas. Visiting family in Chihuahua as well, Mario Acevedo had a rich and varied upbringing, as he would come draw a lot of ideas from it. With his passion in both reading and writing, a lot of these locations would come to serve him well in the years to come when writing his novels.

Continually nurturing his passion for reading and writing, he would carry on focusing on this all throughout his other pursuits. Educating himself he would also find an outlet through his art as well, something which would also serve him well in the years to follow. Finding his voice over time he would harness his passion for the written word, along with expressing himself creatively and freely.

Serving in Operation Desert Storm as a combat artist, he would come to see a lot during his time serving there. Prior to this he would undertake the position of artist-in-residence in Fresno, California, for Arte Americas. This would all allow him to articulate himself artistically, something which he still manages to this day, as he maintains his artistic output alongside his writing.

Working as a full-time writer now, he also teaches at the Avenal State Prison whereby he teaches art to the prisoners there. Putting out his novels on a regular and ever consistent basis as well, he maintains a strong presence both online and off. Not showing signs of stopping anytime soon either, he will continue on into the foreseeable future for many years to come.

Writing Career

Bringing out his first book in 2006, Mario Acevedo made his début onto the literary scene with the title ‘The Nymphos of Rocky Flats’. This was also to be the first in his long-running series of ‘Felix Gomez’ novels, featuring the eponymous protagonist of the title in the lead role. Establishing the style and the tone of his writing career to follow, it was a novel in the vein of many pulp novels, as it was both entertaining and engaging.

Mainly known for his long-running ‘Felix Gomez’, the series follows its eponymous protagonist and the many adventures he has. Starting out as a soldier deployed in Iraq he later comes back as a vampire, something which takes him into a whole new world. Whilst Acevedo may understand the troubles that a soldier may have dealt with, he puts a level of humour and wit into the stories as well.

Gaining a lot of acclaim from the critics as well as the general public, he is appreciated for his fun and entertaining take on the pulp-novel genre. Knowing full well where he is coming from, he writes in a witty tongue-in-cheek manner that many readers worldwide have warmed to. It has also allowed him to gain international appeal, as well as national, with his work being appreciated on a universal level.

Working as an artist-in-residence, he is able to broaden himself creatively, whilst also adding to the scope of his material. Writing with extremely pop-cultural sensibilities, he really understands his audience and where they’re coming from. This has served him well over years, as it goes some way towards explaining much of the success he has achieved through his novels.

Still writing to this very day, he now has a worldwide audience of readers and fans from all across the globe. Working as an artist too, he also ghost-writes a number of books as well, ensuring that he is continually kept busy and occupied. With a lot more set to be released on the horizon, he’s got a vast amount of potential yet to continue expanding and growing as an author and as a writer.

The Undead Kama Sutra

Brought out in 2008 on the11th of March, this was originally released through the ‘Harper Voyager’ publishing label. Setting up the third title in the ongoing ‘Felix Gomez’ this was all set to continue on directly from the previous story, developing the characters and the narrative. Continuing in much the same vein as the first two stories, it manages to capture the essence of what made them work and building on them.

Now working as a vampire private detective within the underworld, Felix Gomez came back from Iraq a changed man. Having previously dealt with a whole array of supernatural entities Felix is now all set to take a well earned vacation, but things don’t quite go as expected. Aliens are working with the U.S. government in a secret conspiracy, and now they want Earth’s women, as an army hit-man attempts to attack Felix, along with Carmen his vampire sexpert associate. Will they get the women of Earth? Can Felix and Carmen keep themselves safe? How will they use the Undead Kama Sutra?

Rescue From Planet Pleasure

Initially released on the 3rd of May, this was first brought out in 2015 through the ‘Smashwords’ publishing outlet. This was also to be a part of the ongoing ‘Felix Gomez’ series, with it marking the sixth installment in the long-running franchise. Carrying on directly from the last novel, it manages to develop both the world and the characters, whilst also providing another adventure in the process.

Following the abduction of his vampiress associate Carmen Arellano, Felix Gomez must travel to ‘Planet Pleasure’ to rescue her. With a race of warrior aliens looking to suck out her libido following their own races dying mojo being depleted, she is in grave danger. Not only that, but Phaedra is looking to take over the undead underworld and potentially wreak all kinds of havoc. Will Felix be able to rescue Carmen? Can he stop Phaedra? What will happen in the rescue from Planet Pleasure?
