She spent almost six years in the undergraduate course at the Indiana University and then moved to New York City to start her career as an illustrator. She failed miserably at that too. During her freshman years, Meg had developed a hobby for writing stories and she decided to give it a try after seeing failures at absolutely everything that she attempted in her life by then. At the beginning of her career, she faced a lot of difficulties in trying to earn her living and pay the rent. Meg worked in various jobs in order to pay her rent, one of which included the 10 year long stint as an assistant manager of the dormitory at the New York University which consisted of 700 freshman beds.

One of the prominent novel series’ written by Meg is the Mediator series, which consists of 6 novels published between the years 2000 and 2004, with the 7th one ready to be published in early 2016. The series deals with a 61 year old girl named Susannah Simon or Suze, as she is often referred as. She is depicted as a mediator and is required to help ghosts complete their unfinished business on earth, so that they can move ahead with their afterlife. Being a mediator, she has the ability to see, communicate with, touch, and hit the ghosts. The series begins when her widowed mother marries a man named Andy Ackerman, which forces Suze to move to Carmel in California. She comes to know about her three stepbrothers in the old house of Carmel. Her bedroom is haunted by a male ghost, Jesse de Silva, who had died 150 years ago. Until then, she was not aware of the fact that she was a mediator, only to be told by a fortune teller in New York. The initial books of the series were written by Meg under the pen name Jenny Carroll. Later, she republished them under her real name. A producer named Julia Pistor has obtained the rights of the series to adapt it into a movie.
The first novel of the Mediator series was published in the year 2000 by the Avon publishing house. The novel was titled ‘Shadowland’ and was set in Carmel, California, United States. The novel revolved around the characters Susannah ‘Suze’ Simon, Father Dominic, Jesse de Silva, Adam McTavish, Brad Ackerman, Cee-Cee Webb, David Ackerman, Jake Ackerman, Andy Ackerman and Bryce Martinson. The opening plot of the novel shows a ghost in the bedroom of Suze. Although he is a ghost, he turns out to be a good and attractive one, who died century long ago. Suze realizes that she is a mediator and has to perform the job of a liaison between the dad and the living people. This is the reason that she was able to see the ghost in her bedroom. Suze helps the ghost to resolve their unfinished business on earth, so that they move on with their afterlife. However, the ghost in her bedroom named Jesse de Silva does not seem to seek her help. This comes as a relief to Suze as she has just moved to California with her stepfather and has plans of exploring the city instead of performing the requisites of a mediator. However, not every ghost seems to be as easy to handle as Jesse de Silva. Suze comes to know about this on the very first day of her new school when she comes across a ghost, who has revenge in his mind. Suze finds herself in a difficult situation being a mediator. The second novel of the series was titled ‘Ninth Key’ and was published in the year 2001 by the Avon Books publishing house. The plot of the novel deals with the love life of Suze which gets ruined by the ghosts in her life. At first, she seems to enjoy her new life in California by attending parties and enjoying every day of her life. She even gets the chance to go on a date with Tad Beaumont, the hottest boy in Carmel. However, a ghost of a murdered woman turns up just as Suze is about to confess her love for Tad. The murder of the woman is directly connected to the past life of Tad Beaumont, which turns her life upside down as she is about to get deprived of the first love of her life.
