Romantic suspense author Melinda Leigh is an American writer whose debut novel “She Can Run” was nominated for Best First Novel by International Thriller Writers. A banker turned novelist, Melinda Leigh finds peace in writing while captivating her readers with her thrillers like She Can and Midnight series and novellas. She lives in what she describes as a messy house in the suburbs with her kids and cats and dogs.
Besides being a mother and providing a forever home for two dogs and two cats, Leigh is actively involved in martial arts. She holds a 2nd degree belt in Kenpo Karate, and she also practices Arnis stick fighting and Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. Being involved in martial arts opened the door for Leigh to also teach self-defense to other women. For Melinda Leigh, raising children is the most important part of her life and probably the only thing that comes before writing. She loves spending time with her family and pets but when it comes to writing she prefers a quiet environment, mostly when she is home alone.
Melinda Leigh has always been a big fan of reading and writing. While working in the banking industry, she was also raising kids and after a while, she realized writing was the only occupation that helped her get away from the craziness of her busy life. Eventually she decided to take writing more seriously and share her passion with others. When her agent contacted her to tell her that Amazon was starting a new romance line, and ask her if she would consider writing for Amazon, she said yes. This was the beginning of a successful journey that soon brought her two nominations for Daphne du Maurier Award. Since then, Leigh has sold more than a quarter million copies of her books among which are her books from the She Can and Midnight series.
The She Can series are what started everything in Melinda Leigh’s professional writing career. Her book “She Can Run” is the story of a young widow named Elisabeth whose life takes a turn for the worse when she meets Congressman Richard Baker. Elisabeth, mother of two, soon marries Richard but it is not long before she finds out her new husband has a terrible secret. She knows her husband would do anything in his power to keep his secret. She decides to run with her kids to save their lives. They start a new life in a small place in a Pennsylvania countryside until a strange turn of events makes detective Jack O’Malley decide to dig into her past. Jack inherits a country house from his uncle who died unexpectedly. He was unaware that his uncle had a caretaker before his death; a beautiful young woman with two kids. Determined to know who this woman is, he starts his investigation only to find out Elisabeth’s secret. From that moment on, he decides he will do anything to keep her and her children safe.
Like her other romance thrillers, “She Can Run” is tightly woven with romance and suspense to keep your heart racing. Other books in this series are She Can Tell, She Can Scream, She Can Hide and He Can Fall.
Midnight Books is another suspenseful series by Melinda in which she wrote three books: Midnight Exposure, Midnight Sacrifice and Midnight Betrayal.
The third book of this series, Midnight Betrayal, tells the story of a curator named Louisa Hancock. Hancock works at a museum in Philadelphia. Like other characters in Leigh’s books, Hancock also has a troubled past. Once residing in Maine, she escapes her past by moving to Philadelphia and hoping her life will change for the better. She meets Connor Sullivan, owner of a sports bar. Everything turns upside down when the body of a museum intern is found brutally and viciously murdered. Soon, another intern goes missing and Louisa realizes these murders are far from random. Having a hard time trusting men, Louisa faces a big fear when the evidence starts pointing at her boyfriend Connor Sullivan. Connor is a very sexy man and as their passionate relationship gets deeper, Louisa does not want to believe he is guilty. She wants to trust him even though she knows this can be dangerous. When the following events show that Louisa is the next victim on the list, she knows she has to do something to save her life.
Like “She Can Run”, “Midnight Betrayal” is packed with emotional roller-coasters and a good dose of thriller. The book received glowing reviews from the press and from the fans of the suspense genre. Louisa Hancock and Connor Sullivan are the characters that Leigh’s readers will recognize from her book “Midnight Sacrifice”. These two characters have known each other before but haven’t met for years. Melinda Leigh likes to keep her characters as mysterious as possible until the end of the story. Nobody is who they seem to be. Everyone has a secret and a troubled past.
Melinda Leigh’s strongest talent comes from placing her surreal characters into real life situations and events. Events that can happen to anyone at any given time. She loves small town settings. especially small towns that hide dark secrets. Small towns where everyone knows each other, but do they really know? Leigh’s love for animals also appears frequently in her books as she almost always gives them big parts in her fiction. One of the many reasons why her fan base finds it easy to get attached to her stories.
