Michael Prescott is one of the New York Times and USA Today bestselling author of America, who is famous for writing down a number of successful novels based on the thriller, suspense, and crime fiction genres. He was born in the year 1960 in Passaic, New Jersey, United States, and spent most of his growing years in New Jersey. Later, he joined the Wesleyan University and graduated in the year 1980. Author Prescott majored mainly with the subject of Film Studies. After his graduation, he shifted to Los Angeles in the year 1981 and began working as a freelance article writer for a number of magazines. After spending a total of 20 years in traditional publishing, author Prescott took the indie route in the year 2011 and began selling his novels in the form of eBooks. As of today, he is one of the bestselling authors of eBooks in America. He began his writing career in the year 1988 with the publication of his debut novel titled ‘Manstopper’. After that, he did not look back and since then, he has published a number of immensely successful novels based on a variety of genres. One of the initial standalone novels written by author Michael Prescott was published under the title ‘Mortal Pursuit’. This novel was first released in the year 1997 and then again in the year 2010 in the form of a Kindle edition by author Prescott himself. He has written this novel under the pen name of Brian Harper. Before the publication of this novel, he had already become a USA Today and New York Times bestselling author with the success of his previous novels titled ‘Cold Around the Heart’ and ‘Final Sins’. The plot of this novel too promises a dizzying thrill to the readers. It takes them to an interesting ride full of suspense, danger, and action sequences. In the opening sequence of the plot of the novel, it is shown that Officer Trish Robinson is carrying out her routine patrolling job during one night.
The rookie officer does not expect any action to happen just like most of the times during her routine duty schedule. But soon, she and her training officer receive a prowler call coming from a remote estate. What follows next is an ambush between the two officers and the ruthless crew of criminals. After a few hours into the fight, Officer Trish Robinson becomes disarmed and totally cut off from any help from her police department. She also seems outnumbered and lonely in the fight against the five criminals. However, the rookie officer possesses some inner resources that she was not aware of previously. Just as she begins to think that her end is near, she starts drawing strength from her inner resources. It was first released in the year 1996 by the Signet Books publishing house and then again in the year 2011 as a Kindle edition by author Prescott himself. The plot of this novel revolves around the happenings in the lives of the main characters named Erin Reilly and Annie Reilly. In the opening sequence of the plot of the novel, Erin Reilly is introduced as a psychologist. She gets kidnapped from her house located in Tucson during the one extremely dark night. In turns out that the kidnapper of Erin Reilly is a serial killer, who is notorious for burn his victims alive. He is also on the top of the wanted list of the city police. However, the kidnapper has no intentions of killing Erin Reilly. In fact, he seems to be tormented because of his obsession and wants Erin Reilly to carry out his treatment and cure him so that he does not kill any other victim.
This appears to be the most difficult job for her because if anything goes wrong during the treatment, she will end up being the next victim of the serial killer. The twin sister of Erin Reilly named Annie seems to be searching her desperately, while Erin tries to look into the psyche and the past life of her captor. Soon, she comes to know about a secret guilt that the kidnapper possesses. Also, Erin learns about a complex web of betrayal and crime, and an unknown connection between herself and the killer. These revelations help Erin Reilly to carry out the treatment of her captor that helps him to recover from his tormented obsession. Just like the previous novel published by author Prescott, this novel too went on to become highly successful.
