Michelle Sagara West is a well known author of the Japanese origin, who lives in Canada and works as a full time author. In her writing career, she has written many interesting novels based on the fantasy, literature and science fiction genres, and received a lot of success in her attempts. Michelle was born in the 1963 as Michelle Michiko Sagara and later changed her name to Michelle Sagara West after adding her husband’s last name. She has been frequently active since the 1990s and has published many wonderful novels under her name. Other than using her original name, Michelle has also used several variations of her name for writing different novels. She has used the named, Michelle Sagara and Michelle West occasionally for writing the different categories of novels. As of today, Michelle lives in Toronto, Canada along with her husband and two children. Her husband has been sick for a very long time and this forces her to look after him for most of the time of the day. Hence, she gets very less time for writing her novels. Now, that her children have grown old, they are able to take care of their father and this allows Michelle to have ample time for writing her novels without any disturbance. Although Michelle is very much fond of dogs, she regrets not to have any of them at her house as pets. Michelle works at the Bakka as a part-time critic.
Apart from writing novels, reading is also one of her interests and she has also mentioned it as one of the passions of her life. She is also known for her opinions on the books that she reads and this has helped her to join the Magazine of Fantasy and Science Fiction, which pays her for her genuine opinions. Michelle says that she is such an avid book reader that no matter how many bookshelves she purchases, there is never enough space for her books as she keeps on buying books after books, after finishing what she is already reading. Michelle is proud that she became an author and a bookseller as it was her passion right from her childhood days. In her entire writing career, Michelle has written around seven successful novel series’ under different names. One of them is The Sundered series. The series consists of a total of 4 books published between the years 1991 and 1994. The books of the series are based on a fantasy plot which consists of the Bright Heart and the Dark Heart. They belong to the Lernan and the Malanth races respectively and seem to be different from the Humans. The Bright Heart and the Dark Heart had everything that they needed to make themselves complete eternally. However, they lacked something that the other one had and they were not aware of it until they touched each other during a battle. Touching each other made them understand what they were lacking and thought that there was a possibility of change in them. The touch resulted into a spark, which was considered to be the spark of life and created the Sundered. The novels of the series revolve around the people of the Sundered as they try to mix with the humans.
The first novel of The Sundered series was published under the title ‘Into the Dark Lands’. It was published by the BenBella Books publishing house in the year 1991. The plot of the novel is based on the lives of the main characters Erin of Elliath and Stefanos. In the opening sequence of the novel, the millennia in the Sundered has always been in a war struggle involving the Servants of the Dark Heart and the Servants of the Bright Heart. The war between the Servants of the two groups has had its effects and costs of them and has also defined life and death for them. However, it seems that the end is near and that the people of the Sundered are going to pay heavily for their activities of war. The lady of the Bright Heart is the only one who can see the end through her vision. She has served the Bright Heart throughout her immortal life and is the only one who has seen the visuals of the approaching end and its demands of high prices that the people of Sundered are required to pay, through her vision that spans over the time. The Lady is named Erin, who is a healer by profession and by her birthright, she is not allowed to wield a sword. However, she goes against her birthright and used the sword against the enemies and bring death to them. She is frequently scarred by the losses demanded by the war and is the only chosen enemy of the darkness and the champion of the Light. But, Erin is not awaited by any quest or magical sword. Rather, her journey seems to be headed towards the stronghold of the Dark Heart as her destiny seems to lie in the hands of the greatest enemy of her people.
The second novel of The Sundered series was published by the BenBella Books publishing house in the year 1992. The novel was titled ‘Children of the Blood’ and continued to show the life of the people in the Dark Heart and the Bright Heart. The plot of the novel continues to revolve around the lives of the main characters Erin of Elliath, Stefanos and Darin of Culverne. In the opening sequence of the plot of the novel, Erin is depicted as being newly dubbed into another character named Sara and continues to carry on with the struggle that she started in the first novel of the series. At the beginning of the plot of the novel, Erin is put to sleep forcefully for 300 years. During this time, her Lord finishes the task of overtaking the enemies and the kinsmen of Sara. The Lord of the Dark Heart becomes successful in killing the Servants of the Bright Heart and now rules both the groups of the Sundered. After slaughtering and conquering the last living member of the Bright Heart, he awakens Sara from the state of amnesia and asks one of his slaves to comfort her. The slave is one among the ‘child of blood’ and continues to do the task assigned to him by the Lord of the Dark Heart. In the meantime, the memory of Sara begins to return slowly. This forces Sara to remember everything before her sleeping state and becomes extremely agitated to take revenge from the Servants of the Dark Heart. As her rage begins to intensify, her caretaker begins to feel that the Dark Heart is no longer safe for them. He starts to look for ways to save Sara from the increasing danger of the Dark Heart.
