The Miss Fortune Mystery series is a series of suspense and cozy mystery novels written by the USA Today and New York Times bestselling author Jana DeLeon. All the novels of the series feature a protagonist named Fortune Redding, who is described by the author as a CIA assassin. Fortune Redding tries to live with a low profile in a fictional town named Sinful, in Louisiana. As Fortune tries to hide her identity, dead bodies begin to appear no sooner than she reaches the town. There is a total of 7 novels in the series published between the years 2012 and 2015. The series is still going on and author Jana DeLeon is working on the latest novel of the series. She is about to publish it very soon in the coming months. The first novel of the Miss Fortune Mystery series was published in the year 2012 as a Kindle edition by author Jana herself. It was titled ‘Louisiana Longshot’ and introduced the protagonist Fortune Redding as an assassin working for the CIA. In the opening sequence of the plot of the novel, Fortune Redding is shown as undertaking the most difficult mission of her life as a CIA assassin. She is asked to move to a town named Sinful, in Louisiana for a secret mission by the CIA. There seems to be a leak at the CIA due to which the largest arms dealers of the world get a tip about her mission. In order to stop her from playing a spoil sport for them, they put a bounty price on her head.

As a precautionary measure for saving herself and the mission, Fortune decides to go off grid for a little while. She had never experienced anything like this in her career and had never been forced to stay out of her element for this long. She decides to lay a low profile by disguising herself as a previous beauty queen turned librarian. Fortune enters the small, bayou town of Sinful as a librarian, but feels worse than. However, she seems to be determined to stay below the radar until the CIA, finds the leak in their unit and puts the stops the dangerous arms dealer from coming behind her trail. As soon as she reaches the town of SInful, Fortune sees her dog digging up a human body in the backyard of her new house. She has not even unpacked her suitcase and is required to get involved in the investigation of the dead body. Unwantedly, Fortune is thrust into the murder mystery of the bayou. She decides to team up with a couple of old ladies of the town, who seemed to be sweet and had the looks that belied their hold on the small town. To add to her problems, the local deputy tends to ask too many questions to Fortune, which makes her to dislike him despite finding him handsome. Fortune is needed to move ahead carefully with the murder investigation in order to prevent herself from blowing her cover and getting killed in the process. This would not be good for her secret mission. The group of old ladies is referred as The Geritol Mafia by the local residents of the town, and with their help, Fortune has no other choice but to find the murderer and solve the case before it is too late. Fortune is armed with considerable skill sets, but tends to use it carefully so that her cover as a CIA assassin is not blown.

Coming to the town of Sinful, in Louisiana, Fortune poses as the niece of her boss named Sandy-Sue. As she moves to there to pack up the home of her deceased aunt, the real Sandy-Sue tours Europe on a holiday. After discovering the human bones in her backyard, she teams up with Ida Belle and Gertie, who assist her in carrying out the murder investigation related to the human bones which belonged to a man who had disappeared around 5 years ago. The attempts of Fortune and her team of old ladies is often halted by the local deputy named LeBlanc. The novel turns out to be a funny and entertaining read. It is not a completely suspense and thriller novel, but shows several funny situations as well. The plot of the novel is mainly filled with the misadventures of the main character Fortune and the team of old ladies of Sinful town named, The Geritol Mafia. Along with these characters, there are also some colorful secondary characters described by the author. The mystery novel shows a comic touch even at the end of the plot when Fortune is asked to stay in Sinful despite solving the murder mystery of the town. She is actually made to wait for the clearance from her boss at the CIA and therefore, it can be expected that she is going to face some more misadventures in the other novels of the series.

The second novel of the Miss Fortune Mystery series was also published as a Kindle Edition by author Jana DeLeon, in the year 2013. The novel was titled ‘Lethal Bayou Beauty’ and it continued to feature the main character named Fortune Redding. In the opening sequence of the plot of the novel, a character named Pansy Arceneaux is found dead, possibly murdered by someone in the town of Sinful. Although, she was not liked by any of the residents of the town, it was getting very difficult to find her killer. Pansy Arceneaux was an aspiring actress who had returned to the town of Sinful, in Louisiana, in order to participate in the Summer Festival for the beauty pageant portion. With her return to the town, undercover CIA assassin believes that she is going to face enough trouble. Posing as a former beauty queen, Fortune finds it as a perfect opportunity to host the event with Pansy, But, Pansy seems to have an abrasive personality due to which because of which the two are not able to go through even one rehearsal without fighting. After a short while, Pansy is found dead and her frequent fighting with Pansy causes Fortune to become the prime suspect in her murder. Feeling surrounded from all sides, Fortune has the support of only her skills and wits, and is helped by the two senior ladies of The Geritol Mafia team, named Gertie and Ida Belle. With the help of them, she launches the investigation of Pansy’s murder on her own and tries to find the real murderer. Fortune is also required to solve the case as soon as possible in order to prevent her cover from getting blown eventually.
