Nancy Martin is one of the famous American authors of the suspense, mystery, romance, and historical fiction genres. The novels written by her have been very successful all over the world and have helped her to establish herself as one of the prominent authors of her time. Nancy has been nominated for a number of prestigious awards in her career and has also won a few of them. Her first novel, How to Murder a Millionaire helped her to win the RT Award. Other than that, she was nominated for the Agatha Award in the category of Best First Mystery in the year 2002. In the year 2009, she went on to win the Lifetime Achievement Award for her tremendous contribution to the English literature. It was awarded to her by the Romantic Times Magazine for writing her excellent mystery novels. As of today, Nancy lives in Pittsburgh and spend most of her time in writing mystery and romance novels.

Other than being a successful novelist, she is also a part of Sisters in Crime as an active member and has helped to establish ‘Pennwriters’ as well, which is a writers’ association featuring herself and her friends. Nancy began her writing career in the year 1980 when she wrote and published her first standalone novel. Since then, her hands have never stopped from writing interesting novels at regular intervals of time. Author Nancy Martin is particularly famous for writing down the well known Blackbird Sisters mystery series. The series is set in Philadelphia and features different sets of characters in each of its novel. Author Nancy has successfully written a total of 48 pop fiction novels in her writing career based on different genres such as historical romance, suspense, mystery, and thriller. She began writing the successful Blackbird Sisters mystery series in the year 2002 and has described the lives of three impoverished heiresses who like to adventure on crime and couture. The first novel of the series went to become a finalist for the Daphne DU Maurier. Currently, Nancy is busy with writing the novels of the Roxy Abruzzo Mystery series.

The Blackbird Sisters mystery series written by author Nancy Martin consists of a total of 10 novels published between the years 2002 and 2014. The series features three ladies from Philadelphia, named Libby, Emma and Nora Blackbird. They are actually the heiresses of the state, but their parents have run off with the trust funds, due to which they are forced to do jobs for the first time in their lives. Nora Blackbird takes the job of an assistant columnist at a newspaper society. She is required to attend parties for the searching for stories and earning her livelihood. But, unfortunately she stumbles upon a number of dead bodies while covering the social scene for the Main Line in the newspaper. With the help of her other two Blackbird sisters, Nora takes up sleuthing to solve the crimes of fashion and aristocratic murders in the city. The first novel of the series was published under the title ‘How to Murder a Millionaire’. It was published in the year 2002 by the Signet publishing house. The plot of the novel is set in Bucks County and Philadelphia in Pennsylvania, United States. In the opening sequence of the plot of the novel, Nora Blackbird is introduced as a society columnist and a former debutante. She goes on to reclaim her place within the elite society of Philadelphia as an acting sleuth after stumbling upon the dead body of an art collector, who was a millionaire.

Previously, her parents used to cater for the American tax evaders and had to run off after their truth was revealed. They leave the art collection of the family with Nora’ sister Emma and the furniture to her other sister Libby. For Nora, they had left the land and a property tax bill amounting to 2 million dollars. Due to this, she had to work different jobs which she had not felt the need to in her 30 years of life, in spite of being an heiress and socialite in Philadelphia. Now, Nora works as a society page columnist for a newspaper agency in Philadelphia. Feeling down and almost out, she feels happy to be back in the elite league of the city. But, in only her first party assignment, she stumbles upon the dead body of the host of the party, who was a millionaire art collector and a former family friend. As Nora tries to investigate the murder, her sisters tend to make the matters more complicated for her. Emma seems to be a hard-edged and sexy woman, while Libby seems to have her hands full with her second husband and four children. Meanwhile, Nora gets pursued by the son of a rumored crime boss of New Jersey. At this point, Nora has to set her priorities.

The second novel of the series was published under the title ‘Dead Girls Don’t Wear Diamonds’. It was published by the Signet publishing house in the year 2003. The plot of this novel continues to feature the Blackbird Sisters just like the first novel of the series. In the opening sequence of the plot of the novel, Nora Blackbird is seen as losing hope from her job of writing society columns for a newspaper in Philadelphia, after having to give up her social life as an heiress. To add to her problems, developers get behind her to convince her about turn the Blackbird estate into a mall. On the other hand, her sisters Emma and Libby feel that she needs a dog, a keeper, or a baby in her life. Meanwhile, she seems to be falling for a tough man from New Jersey, who is believed to have criminal connections. And top of the feuding in her family, she comes to about the murder of a nouveau riche of the city, due to which she faces the danger of becoming the primes suspect in the murder. It is revealed that a rich jewel thief named Emily Post is found dead after drowning at the bottom of a pool. The investigators find a garden gnome tied to her ankles which caused her drowning. Now, Nora Blackbird is required to swing into action in order to save Flan Cooper from a murder charge, who is her former boyfriend. All the circumstances begin to point all the suspicion towards Nora. In order to clear her name from the murder charges, she must find the real killer on her own or she might end up losing her grandmother’s couture for a jail suit. And she has only a day’s time to gather evidence and track down the killer.
