The Posleen War series is a series of highly interesting novels written by the famous American author John Ringo and based on the military science fiction genre. The series is also known as The Legacy of the Aldenata and features a fictional universe. There is a total of 5 books in the series which were published between the years 2000 and 2004. The succeeding novel series’ written by John Ringo also feature some of the characters and plots of this series. Hence, they are sometimes referred to as side stories of this series. The series opens up in a Galactic Federation in a peaceful way in the year 2001. As the federation comes in contact of the human race, they begin to get attacked by the alien race known as the Posleen. Being unable to withstand the fight against the alien race, the Galactics try to take the help of the humans. However, they continue to face more trouble as the humans come to know about the true nature of the Galactics. By including all the sub-stories and the side stories, there is a total of 9 novels written by John Ringo in the Posleen War series, which were published up to the year 2009. Even though any new novel has not been published in the series since then, the series is considered to be an ongoing one as the author is busy developing the plot of the latest novel of the series.

The Galactics were considered to be a highly advanced race and the humans received warm greetings after coming in contact with them. But, when the aliens begin to attack them, the humans come to realize that they are not the ones to be friends with. Their dangerous plots were revealed in front of the humans, which seemed to be plots within plots and dating back to the beginning of the human race and beyond that. These dangerous plots of the Galactics seemed to endanger the survival of the human race. The initial novels of the series are set in the beginning of the 21st century, however, the other sub-series and side stories are taken to the time of nearly a thousand years ahead. The success of the series has allowed the publishers to collaborate with a gaming company, which is set to introduce a role-playing game based on the series and the d20 system. An initial version of the game is provided by the publishers in the form of a CD-ROM as a free gift along with the first hand cover edition of the fourth novel of the series. The Posleen are said to be have yellow blood.

The first novel of the series was published in the year 2000 by the Baen Books publishing house. It was titled ‘A Hymn Before Battle’. The plot of the first novel of the Posleen War series is based on the lives of the main characters Michael O’Neal Sr.,Cally O’Neal, Michael O’Neal Jr., and James Stewart. In the opening sequence of the plot of the novel, Earth is is introduced as being dwelled by the extraterrestrial race of the Galactic Federation along with the humans. Their entry into the human world was in a friendly way and they had become great friends with the human population. The Galactics even used the help of the humans in case of any difficulties or the problems faced by them on Earth, that were beyond their understanding. After some time, the Galactic Federation realizes that the Earth is going to get attacked by an alien race known by the name Posleen. They inform the leaders of the human world, that the invasion of the Posleen into the Earth is very near.

In order to stop the coming onslaught of the Posleen, the military forces of the leaders of the Earth decide to aid the Galactics. They declare themselves available for the Galactics in their war against the aliens of the Posleen on the condition that the Galactics will be exchanging their advanced technology with the human world. However, as the invasion of the Posleen aliens nears, the Earth’s military forces begin to go into a state of dilemma over who to trust and who not to. They begin suspecting the nature of the Galactics during the time of the Posleen invasion and soon come to realize that they are not what they appear from outside. The humans become aware that the Galactics are trying to hide their true agenda for making friendship with the humans and that they have some deadly intentions. Considering the humans as a backward race, the Galactic Federation offers to help them against the Posleen invasion with the advanced technology possessed by it, but for a special price. Soon, the human come to realize that before fighting against the enemies, they have to save themselves from their allies. The title of the novel is based on the poem written by Rudyard Kipling, Hymn Before Action. Apart from the similarity in the title, the author has also used the quotes of the poem throughout the novel.

The second novel of the Posleen War series was published under the title ‘Gust Front’. It was published in the year 2001 by the Baen Books publishing house. Just like the first novel of the series, this novel too shows the fictional world of the Earth, where the Galactic Federation lives along with the humans. The novel also continues to show the same central characters as in the first novel. In the opening sequence of the novel, the Galactics with the help of the advanced technology and the humans with the help of their valor have been shown to become successful in bringing the invasion of the Posleen aliens to a standstill, after choosing to fight against them. But, it has only bought them some time as the Posleen aliens are going to invade the Earth once again, this time with a larger force. Due to the standstill, the military forces of the Earth have been able to catch a moment of peace and distance themselves away from the misery and blood of the battle with the Posleen aliens. It has also given the Earth an opportunity to regroup its military forces by recruiting some raw combats. It seems that the Posleen invasion is just months away and before that the military and political personnel of the Earth want to make sure that they make themselves ready to fight against them once again.
