Books are something that everybody loves. They take you to a world far, far away where you can live various lives. In the world of mystery books, there is only one who can be king of the mystery genre. This is especially true for the author who can go from writing critically acclaimed fantasy books, and then begin an anthology series that has fans young and old anxiously awaiting the next release date for their books.

This is the case for mystery and fantasy champion author, Rick Riordan. To learn all about this fantastic man, read on to see the life, times, and fabulous work of Rick Riordan now.

The Early Life Of Rick Riordan

He was born Richard Russell Riordan Jr. in San Antonio, Texas. He was born and raised in San Antonio, where he went to Alamo Heights high school. Riordan ended up graduating at the top of his class in 1982. He went to college, attending the University of Texas.

Riordan ended up moving to San Francisco, California. This is where he would begin a simple teaching job for a number of years before he started the journey into becoming one of the world’s most beloved authors.

His Work Life Before Becoming An Author

Rick ended up teaching social studies to high school kids in California. He taught at the Presidio high school in San Francisco, California. Rick didn’t start writing novels until 1997, when he was 33 years old.

Writing Career

His first novel was published in the late 1990s, and it was this series that started Rick on his way of becoming a successful author. The series he wrote was called Tres Navarres. The first book in the series was written in 1997, and the last was finished in 2008.

There was a total of seven novels written in that series. The books are in the mystery genre, about a private eye in Texas that goes on many thrilling adventures. These books were written for adults. Then, the critically acclaimed Percy Jackson series was the next to be written.

The series currently has five books, with two graphic novels written after the five earlier books. He has written in over 30 books since beginning his career in the late 1990s, and has an anthology book series in the works for early 2015.

Books Turned Into Films

Riordan’s critically acclaimed fantasy series, Percy Jackson, has been turned into a big name film series. The film rights were quickly bought in 2010 by the movie company Twentieth Century Fox. The first movie, Percy Jackson and the Olympians: Lightning Thief, was released in February of 2010.

The last movie, Percy Jackson: Sea of Monsters was released in August of 2013. There is a rumor that in 2015, there will be a third installment in the movie franchise called Percy Jackson: Titan’s Curse.

Awards That Rick Has Won

Rick Riordan has won a number of awards since 1998. These awards have been for both his Percy Jackson series, and his adult mystery books series, Tres Navarres. Some of the awards he has won include the Shamus award and the Anthony award in 1998 for his novel, Big Red Tequila.

He has also won the 2010 School Library Journal’s Best Book for The Red Pyramid, the 2012 Indian Paint brush award for the Red Pyramid, and even the 2013 Best Fiction Book For Children’s award in Bulgaria for The Mark Of Athena. The grand total of awards that Riordan has won are thirteen awards since his first award in the year 1998.

Some Of The Books In Riordan’s Mystery Series

Tres Navarres was well received by mystery fans when the books first debuted in the late 1990s. Many of the books were well received and became fan favorites. Several of the books even garnered Riordan awards. These books include The Big Red Tequila, South Town, Mission Road, Rebel Island, and The Widower’s Two-Step.

Rick Riordan’s Personal Life

Rick Riordan leads a fairly private personal life. Many people don’t know much about his life outside of the fact he was born in 1964, on June 5th. Rick has been married to a woman named Becky since the 1990s. He has two children, both sons, and their names are Haley and Patrick. He and his family live in Boston, Massachusetts. It has been said that Patrick and Haley were the inspiration behind the Children’s fantasy series, Percy Jackson.

San Diego Comic-con

Rick Riordan ended up being invited to be a guest to the San Diego Comic-con International in 2010, right as the first installment of his book turned film series, Percy Jackson and the Olympians: The Lightning Thief, started to garner success. He sat on a panel where he was asked questions by fans, and lucky fans got to meet him and take photos with him.

Other Books He Has Written

Besides the adult mystery series, the upcoming anthology debuting in 2015, and the Percy Jackson and the Olympians series, Rick Riordan has also written a few standalone books, as well as another series called the Kane Chronicles. Like his Percy Jackson and Tres Navarres series, the Kane Chronicles was well received by new and old fans alike. A total of five books were written in the series. The first book was written in 2010, and the last was written in 2012. There is currently no plans to write another book for the Kane Chronicles series.

Anthology Series

Rick Riordan has a new anthology series in the works for his fans. He plans on releasing a Norse anthology book in 2015, and has also said to want to write an Egyptian anthology series as well. These books will be for children and adults alike, and feature all of the well-known Norse Gods and Goddesses that people have learned of as they grew up.

The first anthology book will be released sometime in 2015. Rick Riordan may be a private author, but he does a lot for his fans. He writes sensational books for both adults and children, his best-selling kid’s books have been turned into critically acclaimed movies, and he is currently working on an anthology series that both kids and adults will love.

I have always loved your books and read them as many times that I lost count. Your books made me fall in love in mythology and I wish that you will make more of these books in the future and to inspire more young writers like me to pursue our dreams and passion in writing. I am very much looking forward to the new tv series of percy jackson! and I hope I can become a great writer like you! 😀

I love all your book. Especially when you mixed some Greek in the Kane Chronicles. Plus Percy Jackson series was by far the best. You have introduced me the world of ancient God’s and the history that follows. The way the books flow together and opening up the cosmos of the human imagination. Also liked it when you mixed two different books together , the Greeks and Jane’s just perfect. Now all you need to do is add the Greeks, Romans, Kane’s with the world coming to an end when the Egyptian gods are fighting with the Greek gods when the Greek gods Roman personalities are trying to split from there counterparts to be there own self with plans to be the most superior gods of the world.

Could you make more books of the Kane series? I just finished The Serpent’s Shadow, but Sadie is a HUGE cliff-hanger. What about her relationship with Walt and Anubis? Could the Kanes and the Greeks join forces against the giants and Chaos?
