Robert Thorogood is one of the well known screenwriters and author from England, who is best remembered for the famous murder mystery series for BB1, Death in Paradise. As a writer, Robert is particularly interested in writing novels based on the mystery genre. He was born on January 01, 1972 in Colchester, The United Kingdom and completed his school studies from the Uppingham School located in Rutland. Later, he enrolled himself at the Downing College in Cambridge and began reading History. While he was studying at the Cambridge, he was involved in a tour with the student comedy troupe of the university called Footlights in the year 1993. In the following year, Robert was elected as the President of his college. After completing his graduation from the Cambridge University, he went on to set up his own theatre company and toured in schools and small theatres. Robert’s theatre company was later involved with the production of the drama, Moliere’s The Miser, which was the highlight of the theatre company. Author Robert Thorogood himself acted in the drama alongside Robert Webb, Olivia Colman, and David Mitchell, and also directed it

After his stint with the theatre company for a few years, Robert shifted his focus towards writing novels. And in many of the years that followed, Robert kept on writing and released a number of novels. During his career as a full time writer, he sold his scripts to the ITV, BBC and several independent movie companies, but most of them were rejected by them. Up to the year 2011, Robert was able to sell just one script to the BBC that was actually broadcast as an afternoon play on the Radio 4, called as ‘From Abstraction’. This play was based on the life of Paul Wolfskehl. In the year 2008, author Robert was involved in an inaugural Red Planet Prize. He was selected as the finalist. Robert used the occasion to narrate the script of his novel ‘Copper in the Caribbean’ to Tony Jordan. The television show based on the novel was finally broadcast on BBC and gave him his first TV television broadcast credit at a very young age of 39. After the success of the show, author Robert became a known name and had become the poster boy for the tag line, ‘Never Give up on Your Dream’. At the start of the year 2014, an announcement was made that informed everyone that he had signed a publishing deal with the Mira Harlequin publishing house for writing down the 3 novels in the Richard Poole Murder Mystery series, the first novel of which was published as a hardback edition in the year 2015.

One of the novel series written by author Robert Thorogood is the ‘Death in Paradise’ series which consists of 2 novels. Both the novels of the series were released in the year 2015. The first novel of the series was published by the Mira Books publishing house and was titled ‘A Meditation on Murder’. The plot of the novel revolves around the lives of the main characters Aslan Kennedy and Detective Inspector Richard Poole. In the opening sequence of the plot of the novel, Aslan Kennedy is described as having an ideal life. He is known to be the Leader of the Spiritual Retreat for wealthier people, which is situated on one of the busiest holiday spots and the most unspoilt islands of the Caribbean, Saint Maria. The idyllic life of Aslan ends when he gets murdered. The case looks to be an open and shut as when he was killed, he was siting in a locked room along with 5 other people. One of them has also confessed to his crime. Hence, there seems nothing much left in the case after the confession of the main accused. Soon, Detective Inspector Poole is introduced as a hot and bothered cop. He seems to be extremely fed up with talking to the witnesses who seem to be more interested in talking about his ‘aura’ rather than the whereabouts of each one of them at the time of the murder. Inspector Poole knows that the fact mentioned in the files about the case is all irrelevant and do not quite stack up. He is most certain the one among the 5 witnesses, who has confessed to his crime is not the actual murderer. In fact, the real killer is still out in the open and looking for his next victim. In order to track down the real killer, Detective Inspector Poole seems to be determined to go on his trail and leave no stone unturned in the process.

The second novel of the Death of Paradise series was published under the title ‘The KIlling of Polly Carter’. It was released by the Mira Books publishing house. The plot of the novel revolves around the life of the main character named Polly Carter, along with the featured Detective Inspector Richard Poole. In the opening sequence of the plot of the novel, Polly Carter is introduced as a supermodel who was very much famous for her beautiful looks and had a lifestyle of a party going girl. Now, she is found dead and it looks like from the first appearance that she had thrown herself from the top of a cliff near her home situated on the Saint Marie island. The people who knew Polly Carter form closely say that she could never undertake such a step and end up killing herself. She was described as a fun-loving and joyful woman. When Detective Poole is called in doing the investigation of the death case of Polly Carter, he agrees to the speculations that there is something more in the case than what was just appearing. Richard Poole already fought a battle with the scorching heat of the Caribbean, and to add to the problems he faces new adversaries like a stream of alibis, a visit from Poole’s mother, and a host with conflicting motives. The set up on the island was such that he could have easily slipped away after committing a crime, but DI Poole believes that the killer is still on the island. After doing the investigation in the house of Polly, Richard Poole becomes convinced that someone from the inside had killed Polly Carter. Now, DI Poole seems to be determined to catch the real killer and find out his plans related to the murder of Polly Carter.
