Sara Donati is an American author of fiction. It is also the pen name of Rosina Lippi, who uses the name Donati for her novels. She is also a best-selling author perhaps best known for her exciting Wilderness series of novels.

An authentic native of Chicago, Sara Donati (or Rosina Lippi) lives with her family somewhere in between the area of Bellingham Bay as well as the Cascade Mountains in the Pacific Northwest. Her family consists of her loving husband, their daughter, and a variety of pets.

Donati is the author of the Wilderness series. The debut novel in the series was also the first ever published under her pen name. It is titled Into the Wilderness and was released in 1998. It was an international bestseller. With such a good reception, Donati began writing the sequel and the follow-up novel came out in 2000. It was titled Dawn on a Distant Shore.

Sara Donati came out with four more books in the series, that continued on with the dynamic release of the third Wilderness novel, Lake in the Clouds. This was followed by Fire Along the Sky in 2004, Queen of Swords in 2009, and the release of the sixth novel in the Wilderness series three years after that with The Endless Forest.

Donati is also the writer of the standalone fiction novel, The Gilded Hour. It was released for purchase in 2015. This book marks the first book released under this name in six years. It is an epic fictional novel that focuses on the two main characters. Both female doctors living in New York in the nineteenth century, this story focuses on the power of love and courage and how it can transcend many of life’s obstacles.

This novel is set in 1883 and it focuses on NYC in a time of poverty, change, and splendor. So much is happening and the city is being built up with changes happening in the form of the nearly-complete Brooklyn Bridge and so much more. Anna Savard and her cousin Sophie have graduated from medical school for women, and they’re treating the people of the city. When Anna comes across four kids as a result of her work and finds out that they’ve lost everything– just like her– she’s faced with a choice about what to do to help these vulnerable children.

Meanwhile, Sophie faces her own obstacles. When a young mother in desperate need of help forces the obstetrician to face the oath she took to become a doctor, she doesn’t know what to do. She and Anna are somehow led by this situation into the path of a very dangerous man. Cornstock is a radical individual that considers himself to be the personal enemy of all things indecent, and he sees a lot of things that indecent. What will Anna and Sophie ultimately do? Check out this book to see the full cast of characters and see how their story plays out and read the novel that others are calling “captivating” and “emotionally gripping”.

Into the Wilderness is the gripping first novel in the popular Wilderness series by Sara Donati! The main character in this novel is Elizabeth Middleton. This novel is in the historical fiction genre. The time is 1792, and the setting is England. Elizabeth lives in England as part of the comfortable upper-class. She never wants anything that she cannot easily get. While many starve and live on the streets of London, Elizabeth is part of the lucky few that live in luxury with no worries or problems. However, her life is disrupted when she gets a request from her father that might have her leaving England for good– something she never thought would happen.

Elizabeth’s father is on a colonial mission in America. He is located at a remote outpost, and he wants his daughter to come and meet him. Elizabeth dutifully packs up and heads for America, but once she gets there she starts to realize that her father might not have been as honest about the pretense why she should come over. Is it too late to go back to England, or will she be trapped in the New World forever, where things are significantly less comfortable, civilized, and populated than Britain?

The sequel to the first book in the Wilderness series is titled Dawn on a Distant Shore. This exciting sequel to the bestselling first novel takes place not too long after the events at the end of the first book. The time is 1794, and Elizabeth Middleton is back as the main character in this novel. She is living with a man named Nathaniel Bonner on the edge of the wilderness in New York.

Life together takes on a feeling of domestic bliss, but how long can things go this well? it seems like it is always a matter of time before something seeks them out and sets them on an adventure. Not only does Elizabeth have to take care of her stepdaughter, Hannah, but she is also pregnant. It would only make sense that by the time she gives birth, it’s twins, and Nathaniel along with his father have found themselves put into prison in Montreal.

Now with two more babies to take care of, Elizabeth is going to do what she can to help them. So she decides to pack up, take the children with her, and go off to Montreal to help and set them free from jail for good. But even as she tries to set them free, sinister forces are at work. She is successful in her goal, but somehow they get packed off to Scotland and involved in a very complicated family feud.

Sara Donati combines a grand sense of adventure set in a specific time in history and dynamic characters in this exciting second book in the Wilderness series. With catastrophe right around the corner, the struggle continues for Elizabeth to make her way in this challenging new world. Can they make it back to Canada and live happily ever after? Pick up Dawn on a Distant Shore to find out!

I just finished QUEEN OF SWORDS, and as a native New Orleanian it was overwhelmingly good. I’ve followed the series, and the relationships in this novel had me often in tears.
    Thank you for these books.

My sister introduced me to your “Into the Wilderness” series of books which I read during the past two years. Since I live in the New York region where these stories took place, I could envision the locales where the character traveled. I then read the two books in the Gilded Series. I am anxiously awaiting another book in either/or both series. You are an amazing writer.

I thoroughly enjoyed both The Gilded Hour and Into The Wilderness. I learned so much from this author. Anthony Comstock became my enemy. I know he was a real person who made life miserable for so many women. I read that he was a fanatic who judged everyone by his own narrow view of the world. A miserable man. I will continue to read her books and will share them with others. A great read.
