Sharon Creech is one of the most prominent authors of America who likes to write her novels based on the fantasy, children’s novels, poetry, and magic realism genres. She has achieved the feat of becoming the first American author to win the Carnegie Medal for the British children’s novels. Creech is also the first person to have won both the British Carnegie and the Newbery Medal of America. Author Creech was born on July 29, 1945, in South Euclid, Ohio, Cleveland, The United States. She spent her growing years with her parents named Arvel and Ann, and her siblings, Sandy, Doug, Tom, and Dennis. Creech used to visit the house of her cousins located in Quincy, Lewis County, Kentucky, very often. She had grown fond of the place so much that she went on to use it as a setting for a number of her books. Author described the place as a fictional town called Bybanks, located in Kentucky. When author Creech was studying in her college in The United States, she became very much intrigued by the art of storytelling due to the writing and literature courses that she took up.

Eventually, after finishing her college studies, she went on to become a teacher of English and Writing in a secondary school in Switzerland and England. After that, she decided to try her hand at writing and wrote her first children’s book titled ‘Absolutely Normal Chaos’. It was released by the Macmillan Books in the year 1990, only in The United Kingdom. The book was later republished by the Kirkus Reviews under the title ‘Comedy About Contemporary Teen life’ and revolved around the English class journal of a 13 year old girl. Author Creech’s first novel published in America was titled as ‘Walk Two Moons’. The novel went on to win the Newbery Medal in the year 1995. Later in the same year, her first novel was released in America by the HarperCollins publishers. Author Creech returned to her hometown in the U.S. in the year 1998, after living for a period of 18 years abroad. As of today, she is married to Lyle Rigg, who works as a headmaster in a school in New jersey.

The two have a couple of grown-up children named Karin and Rob. In her entire career as an author, Sharon Creech has written both picture books and novels. She has the habit of embedding several serious topics in the plots of her stories, such as trust, death, independence, adulthood, and childhood. For depicting these serious themes, she often makes use of humor. A couple of her books, Heartbeat and Love That Dog, are written in the form of verses; whereas the books, Walk Two Moons and Ruby Holler have been written in a narrative sequence. One of her other books titled ‘Bloomability’ is based on the life of an American girl studying in a boarding school located in Switzerland. Author Creech was inspired to develop the setting of this book by an American school located in Switzerland, where she is used to teach English. Creech decided to return to the fictional school style of writing with the novel ‘Love That Dog’, which is inspired from the blank verse diary of a student named Jack, who was reluctant to complete the poetry assignments given to him by his teacher. The novel was nominated for the British Carnegie Medal and turned out to be a runner-up. Author Creech has won numerous awards in her literary career, including the Newbery Medal, Children’s Book Award, Carnegie Medal, etc., in America as well as in England.

Author Creech has written a number of standalone novels in her writing career. One of her most successful books is titled as ‘Walk Two Moons’. It was published by the Harpertrophy publishers in the year 1994. This book features the story of Sal and her grandmother. Sal is introduced as a 13 year old, school going girl. At the beginning of the story, Sal is shown as requesting her grandmother to tell her a story, who thinks of telling her the story of Pheobe Winterbottom. But, before beginning with the story, she warned her that it is going to be an extensively strange plot. Sal’ brother Gram also joins her to listen to the story and both of them appear to be quite excited. During the course of the next few hours, Sal’s grandmother tells them the complete story about Phoebe Winterbottom, the lunatic, and her disappearing mother. While Sal gets entertained with the outrageous story of Phoebe by her grandmother, she begins to uncover her own story. She realizes that her story is similar to that of Phoebe Winterbottom, as she also wishes to get reunited with her disappeared mother. In the end, it is shown that author Creech has developed two intricate stories in her own award winning style. She has described one of them as bittersweet and the other one as funny, and has tried to create a compelling, utterly moving, and heartwarming story about the human emotion complexities, love, and loss.

One of the other standalone novels written by author Sharon Creech is titled as ‘Ruby Holler’. This book was released by the HarperCollins publishers in the year 2002. At the start of the story of the book, author Creech has warned the readers that they are going to learn about the story of Ruby Holler, after which their lives are not going to remain the same. Initially, Florida and Dallas are introduced as ‘Trouble Twins’, who live their live as orphans. After seeing all the difficulties of living in an orphanage, both have started to believe that there is nothing called as a loving home. The orphanage in which Dallas and Florida live is called as Ruby Holler, where an older couple of Sairy and Tiller also live. These two seem to be quite eccentric about living in the mysterious and the beautiful Ruby Holler. But, they appear to restless for some more adventure in their lives. When they allow the Trouble Twins to go along with the in their journeys, all of them are first required to stay in Ruby Holler. Soon, they get taken over by the magic of the mysterious place. Eventually, as all 4 of them continue with their journey, their lives begin to grow closer. In the end, they get changed so much so that their whole life gets changed forever.
