Having over fifty books to her name, Sharon Sala got introduced to books at the age of four and her love for them has never wavered ever since. The writer who got hooked to romance at a tender age through the stories of Emily Loring, Grace Livingston Hill and Zane Gray also writes as Dinah McCall. Her job drove her to writing as she hated it but she didn’t have an easy beginning. Sharon made her first step towards what she is known for today when she wrote her first book in 1980 and a second in 1981, both of which were never good enough according to her assessment. She never wrote again as she engaged herself in the affairs of her family until her father died followed two months later by her sister in 1985. These two sad events acted as her turning point. The fear of dieing in regret of not fulfilling her dreams made her start again and she did this by joining writer groups after which she wrote a book that was accepted by the publisher.
Sharon Sala made her debut in publishing in 1991 and has gone on to win the National Reader’s choice award and also the Colorado Romance Writer’s Award of Excellence winners five times each. Besides also being a winner of the Nora Roberts Lifetime Achievement Award from Romance Writers of America, the Janet Dailey Award winner has been a RITA finalist for seven times and is also a Career Achievement winner from RT Magazine,an award she has won for four times. Her books feature in the bestseller lists,for instance the USA Today, Waldenbooks mass market, Publishers Weekly and New York Times extended list among many others.
Some of the writer’s books include Miracle Man(June 1995), When You Call My Name (December 1995) and Second Chance (October 1996). A quick review into two of her books is given below.
1. Wild Hearts (Secrets and lies series)
In Wild hearts(Secrets and Lies, No. 1) Sharon writes about Dallas Philips who having grown up in a small town decides to follow her dreams in the city where she becomes an investigative journalist. She doesn’t buy the story that her father has committed suicide back at home and therefore decides to investigate on what really happened. Trey Jakes, one of the people Dallas left behind in pursuit of her dreams and who has always admired her is a police chief and the one dealing with her father’s case. Trey has always loved her ever since they were young but somehow they have decided to move on but their feelings for each other start coming back when they find themselves in the case together.
They not only have to deal with what to feel for each other but also the realization that their small town is home to a killer who hides within the residents.
2. I’ll Stand By You
In this one she writes about Dori Grant, a single mother who at only 17 is faced with so many responsibilities. However, her grandfather helps with taking care of the child while she works. When a fire burns everything she had,she has no one to turn to for help. She however meets 20-year-old Johny Pine who acts as a father to his two young brother. He decides to help her and everything goes on well until Johny is summoned to his younger brothers’ school. He finds out that four boys from rich families have beaten his youngest brother to a point that he has to be taken to hospital.
A division occurs in the town when police launch investigations into the matter and for the two young people life can never be the same again. They however stick together through it all helping each other. It is a great story of two young people in a great relationship though faced with difficulties make it through as they live in a community that offers great support.
Besides her work being in print, some of it has also been made into films. Some of these are;
1. The Healer
In this novel that is also available as a film,Jonah Gray Wolf has power to restore health to sick and wounded animals. Soon,he finds himself working away from home in towns where he doesn’t stay for long which turns out to be quite a lonely life. All this is brought about by people who wants to exploit his gift for profit.
He meets Luce, a tough but very beautiful lady in West Virginia. She doesn’t like having company but Jonah dares working out something with her. It doesn’t last long though as the exploiters have already tracked him.
2. Blood Stains
In this film, Maria Slade discovers through her father’s will that she had witnessed the murder of her mother who was a prostitute at the age of four and how she was taken into hiding by the preacher who had raised her as his own child.
Even though she can’t remember that, she decides to look for her biological father as she sets to look out for her mother’s killer. It is in Tulsa, Oklahoma where they meet with Bodie Scott who is a detective. He sympathizes with her and opens the case file again. In their search, things don’t turn out as expected as the murderer has the intentions of making Maria follow her mother’s route while her father is one who has no interest of meeting his daughter.
3. My Lunatic life
From the series Lunatic life the life of Tara Luna is brought to light in film. She is a high school senior who goes through all the problems that teenagers go through. Tara who is in a new school gets into quarrels with the mean girls,is attracted to a handsome guy while others view her as an oddball outsider among many other issues that she has to deal with complete her life which is in all ways crazy according to her.
As a successful writer Sharon Sara still continues to reap big from her work.
