Sharon Shinn is one of well known authors from America who writes her novels by combining the elements of science fiction, romance, and fantasy. She was born in the year 1957 in Wichita, Kansas, The United States. Author Shinn has published over a dozen books for both the adult as well as the young adult readers. The most successful works of hers include the Samaria Series, the Shifting Circles Series, The Twelve House Series, and a rewritten work based on the novel Jane Eyre, originally written by author Charlotte Bronte. Other than being a novelist, author Shinn is also a part of a news channel in St. Louis, Missouri, where she is employed as a journalist. She had graduated from the Northwestern University. Author Shinn has said on a number of occasions that she is a die hard fan of St. Louis Rams and St. Louis Cardinals. She even likes watching the TV show called Lost.
Whenever there is a fantasy/science fiction convention in the city or in the nearby places, she does not tend to miss the chance and always makes sure that she becomes a part of it. She even achieved the feat of being a Guest of Honor for the first time at the convention called ArmadilloCon 26. This was followed by another similar stint at the Capricorn 29 convention. In the year 2009, author Shinn donated her collection of archives to the Special Collections and Rare Books department of the Northern Illinois University. In one of the novels written by author Laurell Hamilton from her Anita Blake : Vampire Hunter series, titled Obsidian Butterfly, Laurell Hamilton has described the lead character Anita Blake as reading the novels of author Sharon Shinn in order to deal with her extreme flying phobia. Shinn says that she has been writing poems and stories since she was 8 years old. The first poem that she had written was about Halloween. However, she was not able to sell her first novel till she reached her thirties.
When author Shinn realized that it is going to take her some more time to get her first novel published, she decided to pursue a degree in the field of journalism. Later, she joined the Northwestern University and completed her graduation. As a journalist, Shinn spent the days of her career working mainly for three trade magazines, namely Decor, Professional Photographer, and BizEd. As of today, author Shinn writes about the management education and takes the interviews of some of the most popular and smart people throughout the world. She has maintained a habit of writing her fiction novels only on the weekends or during the evenings. Author Shinn does not have any kids and she also does not like pet animals. She only likes to provide care for the menagerie of her pet animals. Author Shinn has many friends who are animal lovers.
One of the successful fantasy novel series written by author Sharon Shinn is titled as ‘Twelve Houses’. This series consists of a total of 5 books published between the years 2005 and 2008. The first novel of the series was published under the title ‘Mystic and Rider’. It was released by the Ace Books publishing house in the year 2005. The plot of this novel is set in the south and revolves around the happenings in the lives of the central characters named Senneth and Tayse. The other important characters of the novel include King Bayrn and the King’s Riders. In the opening sequence of the plot of the novel, it is shown that Gillegaria is seething with unrest. In the southern region, the situation is becoming pretty much hostile towards the magic and as well as its users, and is taking a very dangerous turn.
Even though King Bayrn has passed orders that the people of his kingdom should tolerate such mystics, whispers are making rounds everywhere that he has done so because of his new wife, who has used her magical powers for ensnaring him. Also, the King is aware of the fact that are some people in the Twelve Houses who are looking to use this situation for overthrowing him from his throne. Therefore, he asks a mystic named Senneth to analyze the threat present in the realm of his kingdom. Senneth is accompanied by a band of magic users and several warriors such as Tayse. He is believed to be a part of the King’s Riders and holds a hard view of the mystics in particular. As these people move ahead in their journey towards the south, they keep getting closer to death. The land to which they are required to travel seems to be under the sway of one of the fanatical cults. Soon, they realize the fact that all of them need to stay together if they wish to come out alive from the dangerous land.
The second novel of the Twelve House series written by author Sharon Shinn was published under the title ‘The Thirteenth House’. It was released by the Ace Books publishing house in the year 2006. The plot of this novel revolves around the happenings in the lives of the main characters named Casserah, Kirra, and Roman Brendan. In the opening sequence of the plot of the novel, it is shown that Kirra is a shifting, who joins an unlikely group of sorcerers and soldiers for rescuing Romar Brendan from his kidnappers. But when she returns back to his home, she learns that her half sister named Casserah has become the heir of her land. Casserah is asked to go on a tour with the great Houses, but she refuses. Therefore, Kirra takes her form and decides to go on her behalf. There, she comes across her previous compatriots. The band of warriors and mystics get forced to face a lot of dangers, after which Kirra gets attracted towards Lord Romar Brendan. She finds herself being in peril. But, she chooses to reveal her true identity in front of him and carries on with her tempestuous affair that lands both of them in great danger. Eventually, they are taken to the devious stronghold of the Thirteenth House lords.
