Set in an atmosphere of fear uncertainty, in a state that is full of sudden disappearances, arbitrary arrests and summary executions, Allende’s second book tells the passionate affair of two individuals who are prepared to do whatever it takes so as to ensure that justice and truth prevails. In this book, Lanigan introduces the reader to Irene Belran, a reporter who comes from an exceedingly rich family. Despite the fact that she came from an exceedingly rich family, Fransisco Leal was not intimidated by her beauty or her background. Thus, he ended up developing feelings for Irene. Furthermore, it did not matter whether her fiancée was an army captain. These two characters were sent to look into the case of one Evangelina Ranquileo, a young girl who has been suffering from remarkable fits, which is said to have resulted in astonishing powers.

They are eventually caught up in the middle of violence and terror, as they try to get down to uncover an exceedingly heinous crime, a revelation which not only challenges but also provokes the current regime and also in the process places their lives in danger. Just as it is the case with The House of Spirits, the author has once again proven to the readers why she is an outstanding storyteller. She has managed to ingeniously contrast images of mass graves and overcrowded morgues with the exceedingly colorful landscape of South America and also brought to life bold characters, who pump the page. Irene is willfully ignorant, while her mother is impulsive. With that said, this is a fascinating tale of ecstasy and tragedy, of sacrifice and bravery of state betrayal and family loyalty, a tale that is not only profoundly uplifting and moving.

Heart’s Desire is the second book in the Shores of the Indian Lake book series. In this book, the author introduces the reader to Maddie Strong, a café owner. Maddie is more than interested in selling her coffee and cupcake business to an entrepreneur who is more than keen on making the business franchise, and it has been Maddie’s dream to achieve such a success. Furthermore, apart from franchising her business, Maddie also learns that Alex is more than ready to let her move in with him and also bring her to Chicago. The thought of moving in with Alex makes her heart beat; however, she is still not sure if Alex is the right person.

Apart from Maddie and Alex, the author also introduces the reader to Nate, who happens to be Maddie’s first love. Nate has just returned home after he had accomplished his lifelong dream of becoming a heart surgeon. Despite the fact that she fights the feeling she has towards Nate, he still manages to win her over. However, Nate is asked immediately to go back to working with several Indian Reservations in Arizona. He is forced to leave and even promises to call Maddie Strong when he landed. However, several days pass by, and she has not heard from him. Maddie realizes that their life goals are exceedingly different. Thus she decides to call off the engagement. With that being said, despite the fact that this is the second installment in the series, the Heart’s Desire still can be read as a standalone novel.

A Fine Year for Love is the third book in the Shores of the Indian Ocean book series. This is an exceedingly great book that the author has used to show a great depth of passion that it normally takes to build a vineyard and to also keep it productive throughout the year. The protagonist in this book is Liz Crenshaw, who has just inherited a piece of land that had been left behind by her father. Unfortunately, both of her parents had passed away in an exceedingly horrible road accident, when Liz Crenshaw was just 9 years of age. Having been the caretaker of the land for more than 30 years, Liz Crenshaw has learned from a tender age, how to work extremely hard and to also stay focused and determined.

Now, Liz’s grandfather has left her with the decisions and planning of a vineyard. Thus, Liz decides to travel to France, so that she could learn about how to produce a Champagne grape which was going to survive in the Midwestern conditions. While still in France, she becomes friends with a young lady who was more than determined to forge a name in the writing industry. She also happens to be the daughter to one of the premier wine masters. The two make big plans about where they should begin to grow the grapes. This is an excellent book that will keep you entertained throughout.
