Sloane Monroe is a great private investigator who has solved every case that has come her way. Except for one case that cuts close to home for her, and that is the death of Gabrielle, her sister. She was killed by someone known as “Sinnerman”. As a character, she is sassy, has a touch of OCD, and is intelligent. She lives in a ski town, but hates the cold. Sloane has problems committing in a relationship. The series is mystery and thriller.

The novels from the series have made their way onto the New York Times Bestsellers list. The “Sloane Monroe” series is made up of both novels and novellas.

“Black Diamond Death” by Cheryl Bradshaw is the first novel in the “Sloane Monroe” series that was released in 2011. A person skiing crashes while on the slopes in Park City, a ski resort in Utah. The person dies. It looks like a simple accident, but it might not have been. Just when Sloane is close to solving the case, another body turns up. Her life is in danger because the killer knows that she will stop at nothing to make sure he goes away for his crimes.

Fans of the novel enjoyed the story that Bradshaw tells here and she populated it with good characters and paced things very well. Bradshaw makes you feel as if you too are out in the cold with Sloane. The characters seem as though they are real people that you are reading about, not just ones someone made up. The twists and turns in the novel keep things from being predictable and boring. Some found the novel to be a treat for them to read and Sloane to be a character that they wanted more novels about. The series is for fans of lighter reads that can be read quickly.

Some did not like how little editing was done for the book, finding that at times, certain things were confusing and drew their attention away from the story. It was almost as though Bradshaw is a self published author, the typos were so bad. Readers found themselves wondering more about Sloane’s back story, as not a lot of information is given about how she became a private investigator in the first place.

“Sinnerman” by Cheryl Bradshaw is the second novel in the “Sloane Monroe” series that was released in 2011. This novel takes place a few months after the first book in the series. Three years have passed since a killer has been seen, but the death of a young woman is found near a local supermarket at daybreak. She was dumped in the dirt. Sloane must find this man and put him away before he kills again. The killer slashes his trademark S into the wrists of his female victims and dumps them where he originally found them. Sloane must find this man before he goes back into hiding.

Fans of the novel found themselves on the edge of their seat while reading the novel. And they felt happy that Sloane had a chance to catch the man that killed her sister after all the time that had gone by. Some have found themselves a new series to read with Sloane Monroe; as this novel seemed to be more thrilling than the first one was, which is saying quite a lot. Keeps the interest of the reader and has some good writing in it. Some enjoyed the novel and are ready to read the next books of hers. Some have found that they read all of the novels in the series in a little over a week. Some liked that even if they had not read the first novel in the series, you could still understand the events in this one. Some found that they wanted to read more stuff by the author.

Some did not like the lack of proofreading this novel had and that it was a little light and mindless. Part of the plot seemed a little unlikely, if not far fetched. Some were not satisfied by the conclusion of the novel and found it to be a let down. Some found that the novel was a run of the mill average story about a serial killer. Nothing fancy here.

“I Have A Secret” by Cheryl Bradshaw is the third novel in the “Sloane Monroe” series that was released in 2012. Sloane is aboard a ship to celebrate her twentieth high school reunion. A killer decides that it would be a great place for them to be to get revenge, so they climb on board. Doug Ward, the prom king, is killed and thrown over board, and so is one of Doug’s old cronies. Sloane returns to California to look into things and try to catch a murder. She finds that a lot are holding on to old secrets, she wonders how many more will die before she is able to learn the truth. Not only does she find the killer, she finds out a whole lot of secrets about some of those involved in the murders.

Fans of the novel liked the way the story kept them reading, making them want to put things off until they had a chance to finish the novel. The characters come alive and the suspense as to who the killer is and what happens next makes the novel a great read. Some found that the novel has the best editing of the first three novels. Readers found that this novel, unlike the other novels in the series, does a better job of having Sloane uncover the clues that lead her to the next one. Some readers liked that the novel does not veer off onto a tangent, but stays on the main course of things.

Some did not like the cliché that a private investigator suffered from child abuse. There was some writing that came off awkward and almost caused some to read something else. Readers hoped for more development of one of the characters, but did not get it.

The third novel in the series “I Have A Secret” won thriller of the year from eFestival of Words. Book four in the series, “Stranger in Town” was up for a Shamus Award.
