Sophie Hannah is one of the well known novelist and poet from England, The United Kingdom, who likes to write all her books based on the psychological thriller genre. Before going on to become an established author, she used to be a Fellow Commoner in the subject of Creative Arts at the Trinity College, Cambridge, as well as a junior fellow of research at the Wolfson College, Oxford. For one of her stories titled a ‘The Octopus Nest’, author Sophie became successful in winning the Daphne Du Maurier Festival’s Short Story Competition. She has also been shortlisted for a few other major literary awards in her writing career. As of today, author Sophie is working on the latest novels of the Zailer & Waterhouse Mystery series, which is also known as the Spilling CID Mystery series. She lives in her house located in Cambridge along with her husband and a couple of children. Author Sophie began her writing career in the year 1992 with the publication of the book titled ‘Carrot the Goldfish’.

After the success of this book, she went on to write and publish several other poetry and short story collections as well as a few standalone novels. Finally, Sophie became a complete novelist in the year 1999 when she published the standalone novel called as ‘Gripless’. With a successful and prosperous writing career, she is very well recognized as a bestselling international novelist of the psychological crime fiction genre. Almost all of her books have been translated into more than 32 foreign languages in over 51 countries of the world. In the year 2014, author Sophie published a Hercules Poirot book called as ‘The Monogram Murders’ with the blessing of the family and the estate of Agatha Christie. This book went on to become a bestseller in more than 15 countries. The success of the novel was followed by the second Poirot book titled ‘Closed Casket’, which is about to be published very soon in the year 2016.

Author Sophie won the ‘Crime Thriller of the Year’ award in the year 2013 organized by the Specsavers National Awards. The award was given to her for her novel ‘The Carrier’. A couple of her crime books have been adapted into a television series. The books, The Other Half Lives and The Point of Rescue, were eventually adapted under a single television series called Case Sensitive, which appeared on the ITV1 channel in the years 2011 and 2012. Apart from the crime novels, author Sophie has also published a couple of collections of short stories and 5 collections of poetry. The last poetry collection written by her was shortlisted for the Eliot Award in the year 2007. Most of the poetry collections written by Sophie are studied at A-level, degree level, and GCSE all over The United Kingdom. Today at the age of 44, author Sophie lives happily in Cambridge with a couple of children, her husband, and a dog in her family. She still serves as a Fellow Commoner at the Lucy Cavendish College in Cambridge. Author Sophie says that all her writings have been influenced by the famous and popular works of the prominent writers like Nicci French, Agatha Christie, and Ruth Rendell.

The Spilling CID mystery series written by author Sophie Hannah is comprised of 10 books in total, which were published between the years 2006 and 2016. All the novels in this mystery series feature the central characters in the form of Simon Waterhouse and Charlotte Zailer. Waterhouse is depicted as a detective constable and Zailer is shown as a detective sergeant. They are shown by author Sophie as working in a police department in England. The debut novel of the Spilling CID series was published under the title ‘Little Face’. It was released by the Hodder & Stoughton publishers in the year 2006. Charlie Zailer and Simon Waterhouse are depicted to be the main characters in the plot of this book. The story begins with the situation which is described as the nightmare of every mother. At the beginning, Alice Fancourt first time after the birth of her daughter and decides to leave her 2 month old daughter with her husband named David at her home.

When she returns back after 2 hours, she finds that the baby sleeping in the crib is not her daughter. In spite of swearing and distressing continuously, her husband does not seem willing to believe her and remains adamant that she is getting the things wrongly. Soon, the police arrive at Alice’s house. Even though Simon Waterhouse seems sympathetic, he doubts the story described by Alice. Sergeant Charlie Zailer thinks that she must be under some delusion caused due to the depressions of postpartum. During the whole time, David remains pretty much menacing and hostile. He constantly keeps on swearing that his wife must have gone mad or she is lying. Alice Fancourt finds it very much difficult to convince the police that she is right. She uses each and every measure that she could, but all of them go in vain. However, she seems determined to help her get back her daughter before time runs out.

One of the other books in the Spilling CID series written by author Sophie Hannah was published under the title ‘A Room Swept White’. This book was also released by the Hodder & Stoughton publishers in the year 2010. At the start of the novel, Flis Benson, who is depicted as a television producer, receives a strange card during his work. She finds 16 numbers printed on the card arranged as 4×4, and does not seem to understand the meaning hidden in the arrangement. On the same day, she learns that she will be working on a project about the mothers who get accused of murder wrongly after miscarriages. In the documentary, she is supposed to feature 3 women named Rachel Hines, Helen Yardley, and Sarah Jaggard. All the 3 women have now been set free from the murder charges and the doctor who wanted them to get jailed for their supposed crimes, Dr Judith Duffy, is put under investigation for carrying out misconduct. Fliss Benson has decided that this will be the last documentary that she will be working on and does not give any reason to do so. Soon after, Helen Yardley is discovered dead. The police finds the same card in her pocket with 16 numbers arranged in 4×4. This makes them suspect Fliss Benson as the murderer.
