Steve Demaree is a popular author from America, who has written a number of highly successful mystery, thriller, suspense, and romance books. He is particularly well known for writing the Dekker Cozy Mystery series. Author Demaree achieved a great success with the series’ first book, titled 52 Steps To Murder. This was also the debut book of his writing career. Apart from this bestselling series, Demareer has written a couple of other novel series. Demaree says that he does not know where did he get the inspiration from to become an author. He thinks it was destined to happen. Prior to the publication of his first book, Demaree had already penned several short stories over a period of one year. Things started to change for the better when he decided to use the short stories to develop a book. Author Demaree had a great interest in reading and writing, but he never really aspired to write something on his own. He believes that God wanted him to do this and that is why he entered in this field. Even if would have had any thoughts of turning into a writer, Demaree was so low in self-confidence that he didn’t think he would ever become one. All the books of author Demaree are published by himself. Before he released his debut book, he talked to several established authors about the idea of self-publishing. But, he could not get much help. Therefore, he decided to go on and self-publish by gambling with his luck. Today, author Demaree feels that he took the best decision of his life by deciding to self publish because he found that things become very easy with e-books. The decision also proved beneficial to him financially because, like all the other authors, he too makes more money from e-books that the printed versions. While writing all the three novel series, author Demaree found the Aylesforf Place to be the easiest one. This series takes the characters through a one year progression in each of the books. The Dekker Cozy Mysteries proved to be a little bit harder for Demaree, while the Off the Beaten Path Mysteries series was the toughest one because it does not have recurring characters and humor elements. Demaree finds it very easy to develop his plots and characters around humor.
Author Demaree seems to know his characters quite well to know how they will progress in the future. He considers his 2 nonfiction books as his best ones, even though they have not been read by many readers. But, those who have gone through the two books have raved about them a lot. One of the nonfiction books is called Reflecting Upon the God’s Word. It took author Demaree one and a half years to write the first draft of this book. The other book, Lexingotn & Me, is written as an autobiography. This book covers the life of author Demaree up to the time when he completed the book. The book mostly covers the lives of people living in Lexington during the 1950’s and 1960’s. Author Demaree says that even the readers who didn’t spend their time in Lexington, Kentucky will enjoy reading the book. As a prominent author, his only advice to the budding authors is to keep writing every day. This is the same advice that was given to him when he new in the field. It is important for a writer to sit in front of his computer each day and write anything that comes to the mind. This habit should be followed until the draft of the book is completed and should be repeated again for writing the next books. Another important habit that the upcoming writers should follow sincerely is sitting with their drafts and finding mistakes, and taking out the parts that are not required. Multiple revisions should be done until everything looks perfect. Author Demaree goes over the things he writes on the previous day and then starts each day freshly. This gives him a running start and maintains the continuity.
The Off the Beaten Path Mystery series written by Steve Demaree is comprised of a total of 4 books, which were released between the years 2013 and 2014. The first book of this mystery series is entitled ‘Murder in the Dark’. It was released as a Kindle edition in 2013. At the start of the story of this book, it is shown that 12 people visit a remote hotel to spend a relaxing weekend. When it gets dark, the windows and doors of the hotel get locked and the lights get off. Someone uses the darkness to murder the guests one after the other. When the remaining guests realize what’s happening, they wonder whether the murderer is one among them or any other person. The guests feel reluctant to form bonds with other guests, even though none of them appears to be a killer. The 12 guests chosen by the murderer include a judge, a teacher, an author, a real estate agent, a doctor, a private detective, a firefighter, a programmer, an insurance agent, a taxidermist, a librarian, and a funeral director. The guests begin to suspect the butler and the owner of the hotel as the murderer, if not one among them. The owner seems to be blind and seated on a wheelchair. Some guests think that he might be using this appearance to disguise the guests and commit murders in the night.
The next popular book of the series is called ‘Picture Them Dead’. It was also released in 2013 in the form of a Kindle book. At the beginning of the story, it is depicted that a woman vanishes from her house. A lady in the neighborhood informs the police that she witnessed a man moving out of the house the same night the woman disappeared, and was carrying a couple of large bags. One bag was so large that a human body could fit into it. Upon investigating, the police only discover a photograph that was kept on the dining table with a knife poked into it. After some days, it is learned that someone is killing innocent women in the same manner in different states. And after each killing, the murderer leaves behind a photo stuck with a knife. The photograph consists of a group of 13 people and each of the victims turns out to be one from the group. The police try to get in touch with the remaining people in the photo and warn them about the serial killer. Also, they try to find out whether they know someone who would kill them one by one. When the police get some idea about who the killer could be, they set a trap to catch him.
