Tom Wood is one of the popular English authors of the thriller genre. Before becoming a full time author, Tom was involved in doing a wide range of jobs. After realizing the potential in his art of writing, he decided to leave everything else and shift his focus towards writing thriller novels. Eventually, Tom debuted with the thriller series featuring the primary character Victor as the assassin. He was born and brought up in Burton Upon Trent, Staffordshire, England and currently lives in London. Tom began his writing career in the year 2011 when he debuted with the first novel of the ‘Victor the Assassin’ series and published it in the same year. Going by the style of writing of his novels, it can be seen very well that he is basically the writer of the mystery and thriller genres. The books written by Tom are known by different names in various countries. Almost all the novels written by author Tom Wood have become successful among the readers all around the world. This has helped him to get wide appreciations from one and all. His name is now being counted among the prominent authors of mystery and thriller novels in today’s world.

One of the initial novels of the series was released under the title ‘The Game’. It was published by the Sphere publishing house in the year 2013. In the opening sequence of the plot of the novel, Victor is depicted by the author as living a peaceful and solitary life in Iceland in spite of being an assassin. He gets hired by an unidentified broker from Switzerland to do a job for him. Before being able to do the job, he is asked to go through a test. After passing the test, Victor gets introduced to a group of killers and mercenaries who all are also given the task of carrying out the ultimate assassination. While staying with the mercenaries, Victor sees a familiar face among them. He meets someone whom he had known from his past life, who had recruited him for the first time and had made him become what he is today, and who was thought to be dead long ago by Victor.

After realizing the huge mistakes that he has made by choosing the deadly profession, Victor tries to get out of it and live a peaceful life. But, he is unable to do so and it seems that his former mentor has some different plans for him. The novel proved to be a brand new entry and an action packed thriller by the upcoming author Tom. It seemed absolutely perfect for the readers and fans of authors Lee Child and Robert Ludlum. The readers found that the novel was very well written with a descriptive and flowing narrative that allowed them to flow with the tension and action of the plot from the beginning till the end. They also found the novel to be full of interesting and exciting scenarios and moving at a fast pace. The attempt of author Tom in the characterization of the Victor shows that he has given it a lot of thought. The way he has developed the plot of the novel depicts that he is indeed an author of high caliber when it comes to his art of writing thriller novels. With its flowing narrative, great characters, and excellent storyline, the plot of the novel is considered to be a terrific thriller. This helped author Tom to receive a lot of appreciations and praise from his fellow writers as well as from the critics. He was also encouraged to write down many more exciting thriller novels like this one in his writing career.

One of the other novels of the Victor the Assassin’ series written by author Tom Wood was titled ‘The Darkest Day’. It was published by the Sphere publishing house in the year 2015. The plot of this novel continues to deal with the life of the primary character Victor along with a new addition named Raven. In the opening sequence of the plot of the novel, it is shown that Victor resembles the darkness and Raven has come to kill him. As the city is starved for light, it seems that she might use it to succeed in his mission and make Victor pay for his crimes in the past. Raven has been described by the author as a skilled and well trained assassin, who can kill silently and can move like a shadow. In spite of being an assassin, she has the elegance and the beauty of a woman, which she uses sometimes to attract her targets and make them her victims. Being an assassin, Ravn has been on the run for a number of years. But, it seems that she might have picked the wrong target this time as Victor is also an assassin just like her, maybe more skilled and better trained.

Victor is very well known as a hitman who is paranoid as well as merciless and has never been on the run from getting assassinated by other assassins. Therefore, the arrival of Raven to kill him does not make him look worried. He knows that he will be able to handle her just like he has taken care of all the previous assassins who had come to assassinate him. Victor follows the tracks of Raven and goes wherever it leads him to, around the globe. He aims at not only neutralizing the threat to his life, but also discovering the one who has sent Raven to kill him. Following the trail, he reaches New York and hopes to discover his new enemy. As soon as Victor arrives in New York, the city goes out of light. Manhattan experiences darkness for a long duration of 12 hours, which causes a lot of chaos in the city. In the middle of the acts of looting, blackout and conspiracy, Raven and Victor get involved in a game of cat and mouse. Their intense fight in the middle of the darkness is witnessed by the whole city.

I’ve read a few of Tom Wood’s books. ‘A Quiet Man’ is my favourite. His Victor character is very good and I enjoy both the ruthlessness and the precision of his stories. As always, I look forward to his next adventure.

I also really enjoyed Tom Wood. He is however, no longer available in Canada in Audible or print. Such a shame that his latest Victor novels have been stripped out of our market. I will take some your suggestions and try another author.

I’ve read quite a few of the Viktor series and the most recent “A Quiet Man”, is, in my opinion, the best. I’m anxious to see where the protagonist winds up going forward. An added bonus is the details of tradecraft used. Most interesting.

I am an older gentleman who has been around the block a few times, and I find Victor a fascinating character. Disciplined, dedicated, and driven… his casual remarks to some of the other sub.characters,( tailors, con artists and wannabes) has me privately chuckling as I race through the story. Thanks for your expertise in keeping me loving this genre.
