TEXAS GROOMS SERIES
The series consists of 13 novels. Each book gives a story about different couples as they try to undertake their daily marriage life. To the readers, these books can serve counseling purpose and also educative purposes through the encounter and different stories vividly described by the author in each novel.
One of Winnie Griggs early writing in the series Texas Grooms is;
HANDPICKED HUSBAND. The book is entertaining and captivating from the beginning to the end. It is a story about Regina Nash a young and beautiful woman who has to choose one of the many rooms she has or else she loses custody of her nephew. It is in 1894; Regina lives in Turnabout in Northeast Texas. She finds out that her grandfather has created a lottery for her to pick the husband of her choice. To add some icing to the cake, all the proposed grooms who participate in the lottery are subject to win a business of their choosing for participation provided that they abide by the rules.
Reluctant Reggie is determined not to make the challenge easy for them. She only wants all of the proposed grooms to withdraw from the lottery. She unleashes hell on them to have them withdraw or break the rules, which means lose the lottery free prize.
The drama of the grooms with Reggie pauses and the author shifts her attention to a new character Adam Barr. Even though called to Turnabout to take care of the Judges business, Adam feels that he should not be in that town, rather he should be in Philadelphia cleaning his mess. He seeks to find the person who framed him and resulted in him being sent to prison for six years.
He is not a participant in the lottery contest but enjoys watching Reggie with her grooms as she puts each one of them through hell. He is certain the tight contract rules and the way Reggie is treating her suitors will eventually get her a good husband. He is even glad that he is not a part of the little vixens hand in marriage. However, on the contrary, he does not believe that Reggie would make anyone a good wife. She is a woman of her character who marches to her drama and sings to it too.
The first part of the story is way too much interesting and entertaining. However, more drama unfolds towards the end of the storyline. Imagine of the vengeance that Adam would unleash on the villain who sent him to prison? Who gets to win the lottery challenge and the heart of Reggie?
Winnie Griggs manages to convey emotional turbulence with all the characters throughout the entire novel. The unique initial published in 2005 as ladies choice was later revised and incorporated into the Texas Grooms series.
