The Asperger Parent: How to Raise a Child with Asperger Syndrome and Maintain Your Sense of Humor – In this honest and riveting non-fiction, the author has taken a refreshingly bold and humorous outlook on the condition of Aspergers Syndrome. The book is based on the author’s experience of raising his 11 year old son who was diagnosed with the condition of AS at the age of five. The book is quite interesting and the author has mentioned his experiences on how one can look after their AS kid and still remain sane and without losing their sense of humor.

Honest and gripping, the book covers all the aspects of emotional behavior that a parent of AS kid faces and it surely is heart wrenching account of events.

The author reiterates that the book is not about how to help your child who is facing Aspergers rather it deals as how you can enjoy the process. Instead about focusing on the AS kid, the author in the book highlights the plight of parent who often is blamed by the society for the sorry state of their kid. In the book Jeff recounts many such experiences where his child behaved abnormally in the public and people held his responsible for such behavior. The author recounts his experiences of shame and guild that he was subjected to due to immature behavior of people.

With one of the chapters in the book titled as “Other Parents Think I’m a Monster” the author tells his first hand experience about other’s parent attitude towards him. He further points that he went through a situation that only parents of an AS kid could understand or comprehend with.

One more chapter with the book titled as,” Remember the Person You are Married to “stresses on the fact that parents should not blame each other for the state of the child. He puts focus on the fact that mutual understanding between husband and wife is necessary and parents along with the kid should also focus on ways to keep the romance alive. This helps both the parents stay happier and they get more strength to tackle the situation.

The book in itself is a treat for parents especially for newly diagnosed kids. Full of honesty and emotions, the book covers every aspect or emotion that a parent faces. With all its fears, joys, worries, sadness, laughter and anxiety that book makes you experience it certainly offers you a rich experience and suggests that there is always a light at the end of the tunnel.

I love all your and EJ’s books. I’ve read every one I can get. Just finished “Some Like It Hot-Buttered”, therein lies my comment: in chapter 34, 4th paragraph, you refer to Pike’s Peak. Living in Colorado, we all take umbrage, it’s actually Pikes Peak without the apostrophe. Nit picking I know. Must get the library to get the rest of your Comedy Tonight series, and “The Gun Also Rises”.
