Phil Ward is a published author.
In addition to writing books, he is a decorated combat veteran who was commissioned at the age of 19 years old. He is a former instructor at the Army Ranger School and all his life has had an interest in small unit tactics as well as special operations.
Phil resides on a mountain that looks over Lake Austin along with his wife, Lindy. Her father also served as the lieutenant governor to Ann Richards as well as George W. Bush.
Those Who Dare is the first book in the Raiding Forces series by Phil Ward. This is the debut in a series of well-researched novels about World War II that have to do with hit and run raids that were conducted by British forces against Hitler’s war machine while under the command of a United States soldier. If you are a fan of anything having to do with the military or history or just love military fiction and want something new to read, this is a great book to check out.
By the time that 1940 rolled around to the month of May, panzer divisions had already gotten to Belgium and reached all the way to Calais. Lieutenant John Randal of the U.S. 26th Cavalry Regiment decides that it is a good time to offer up his own expertise for the purposes of aiding with slowing their advance.
What then ends up unfolding is a combination of suspense, humor, military guerrilla tactics, social and cultural commentary, and war buddy camaraderie. It also includes a slight bit of romance that goes on between the American G.I. and Lady Jane Seaborn, a widow.
On the way, readers get the chance to meet such colorful characters as Captain David Niven in MO-9 as well as Captain ‘Geronimo Joe’ McKoy who is known for his Traveling Wild West Show and Shooting Emporium.
Since the author is himself a veteran of combat and is decorated for his efforts, this book covers all of the details of the war in depth, ranging from the five points of contact of a parachute landing fall all the way to various descriptions of a British raider’s A-5 flinging ferries before the first of the shell casings from the 12 gauge are able to hit the floor.
Once the novel is concluding, Major Randal’s men, just off of Operation Tomcat in France, find out that they are going to have to deploy by way of sea transport within the course of 48 hours for their next mission. Check out the wonderful detail and more in this fascinating book, the first in the Raiding Forces series, that you won’t want to miss.
Dead Eagles is the second book in the Raiding Forces series by Phil Ward. If you enjoyed the first book in this series, be sure to find out more and check out more action by getting your hands on a copy of this sequel.
In this book, U.S. Major John Randal returns. The Commander of Strategic Raiding Forces has come back and is now leading a crew of British Commandos, Royal Marines, and Royal Navy raiders on their way to missions that are even bigger, riskier, and bolder than ever in an attempt to foil Hitler’s Third Reich.
While off the Gold Coast colony in Africa, the Germans are running their own naval intelligence ring whose purpose is to actively gather information about British convoys in the southern sea-lane. Couriers then move the data and carry it to the close by Rio Bonita, a small Portuguese island protectorate. There they are then broadcast to Nazi U-boats and the surface raiders from a radio station that is located on board of one of the three interned enemy ships.
The result of this is that the British convoys that are so important to the war effort at large are ravaged. Major Randal and the Raiding Forces have a mission to invade Rio Bonita and somehow spirit away these three ships. If they fail, it either means that they will be put into prison or worse, be hanged for piracy. It also means that Portugal would declare war on what is its oldest ally.
Populating this book is a variety of characters, some that the reader will be familiar with and some that are all new. These include the Wild West showman Captain “Geronimo Joe” McKoy, the Special Operations Executive operator Lady Jane Seaborn, who takes on the Raiding Forces as her own project, and Lady Jane’s driver, Pamala Plum-Martin, who happens to be a bombshell herself.
There is also an appearance made by Commander Ian Fleming. He puts in a plan for Operation Ruthless, which has the goal of getting on board a Luftwaffe bomber and crashing it into the English Channel so that they can get an Enigma coding device from a Nazi air and sea rescue craft.
This adventure story is packed full of action and is sure not to disappoint. It also features the take down of the Vichy French fleet in English ports, the Lovat Scout Snipers, the daring Commando raids, an epic battle at sea, gorgeous spies and the culmination of all events climaxing with a deadly shootout that takes place in a bar in occupied France. Grab a copy of Phil Ward’s second book in the Raiding Forces series to catch all of the action for yourself!
