Agent Michael Walker comes back when the many deaths at Glacier Bay National Park are simply the first parts of a disaster that has the potential to go global. A frozen woolly mammoth is being uncovered by a geological survey team in Alaska’s Glacier Bay National Park.
But then all of them are discovered dead at the site of the carcass that has been thawed out. Once this happens, National Park Service ISB Special Agent Michael Walker is called upon to come in and investigate further.
Meanwhile, in the Everglades National Park in Florida, FBI special investigator Gina Delgado is looking into the murder of an environmental science intern and tracing it slowly but surely back to the ongoing experiments being done by the U.S. Geological Survey that are also having an impact on the fragile ecosystem there.
Then, in the cold water of Alaska’s Elfin Cove, a group on board the stranded L.A. class attack submarine are taken out by a contagion of mysterious origin, which causes their lungs to freeze. These events may appear to be separate, but they could also very well be linked.
The tie between these two events may be found in a prehistoric and deadly microbe that proved to kill the mammoth just the same way that it did to the USGS survey team and the crew members who were on board that submarine.
This is the microbe that a billionaire out there, among others, wants more than anything to get. On top of that, a Russian strongman is willing to do anything that it takes to weaponize to get even larger power with a wide range.
Walker ends up finding that he is fighting a battle in different ways, from intellectually to militarily and biologically. The result is that he and Delgado are quickly running out of the time required in order to get ahead of and stop an attack from happening that has the potential to reshape the entire world going forward. Will they be successful or will they find out that some things are simply out of their control? Read this action packed book from A.J. Landau to find out!
