This is an intimate novel that will have you interested and engaged from the start. It’s based on the real life story of Margaret Jones, who also happens to be the first woman who was ever found guilty of witchcraft in Massachusetts in the 17th century.

The year is 1646, and the setting is the Massachusetts Bay Colony. Main characters Thomas and Margaret Jones are among the many others who have made the choice to come over from England and risk everything that they have for the chance to make a new life for themselves in the New World.

Thomas and Margaret have very different temperaments. Thomas is more cautious while Margaret is more fiery, while also being a healer. The two of them are tied together by the type of love that is able to last through the decades. Since they also have a child coming on the way, this new beginning could be the start of their blessings.

In this unique Puritan community, beautiful faces end up covering up for malicious intent. The wrong moves or words can also be met with suspicion, and Margaret’s unguarded and bold nature pulls scorn from all of them. It isn’t too long before Margaret is not trusted and is seen more as a cunning woman than a caregiver who is completely kind. When personal tragedies, religious hysteria, and being wary of the unknown ends up turning more people against her, it could end up putting the bond between Margaret and her husband at risk.

This book has been inspired by diary entries and court records. It is the story of a woman who has been accused in an unjust fashion as well as the love story that is set between the political and social turmoil of Old and New England. Read this book to see how Andrea Catalano imagines history!

It is the 1870s, and the destiny of an immigrant who wants to get out of the factories of New York City comes up against the ambitions and the passion of two different men in an exciting and sensual novel written by Catalano.

The year is 1879, and the place is none other than the happening locale of New York city. Main character Eileen Maguire is a factory lacemaker who is held back by her humble circumstances and is constantly dreaming of a better life for herself.

Then there’s Lawrence Barnard. He is the only heir to one of the wealthiest families in Manhattan. However, his means ensure that he is kept tethered by the expectations that society puts upon him. When their paths come across each other one night in winter, Eileen and Lawrence find that they are caught under the charismatic spell of Stanley Jones, an enterprising man who is always talking about the opportunities that are waiting for people in the West.

It would appear that the millinery shop that Eileen always dreamed that she would own along with her sister is possible, and so is the freedom to make his own choices independently that Lawrence desperately wants.

What starts out as a journey to go west starts to become something that is completely unexpected and a little sinister, especially once the group comes around to Leadville, Colorado, a wild silver mining boomtown that is located high up in the Rocky Mountains. A love triangle comes out of it as well, putting promises and passion up against betrayals and lies.

With their idealistic intentions gone wrong and strange desires threatening to completely undo them, it will end up taking heartbreak as well as a secret to end up shaking Lawrence and Eileen up and out of the stupor that they are in and to remind the pair of them that their fortunes are in their own hands. Put up against the Gilded Age backdrop, this is an interesting story of seduction that will have you staying up late to read to the end to find out what happens!
